Description of problem: Online Upgrade from Mageia 2 to Mageia 3. From Mageia 2 KDE user desktop click on blue mga update arrow icon 2. After/during (done during night) packages installation, appears the error I do not know where the upgrade stopped. 3. no way from KDE user desktop to submit the report 1- KDE is partially frozen (no barres, no launcher, keyboard totally frozen -> konsole cannot be used, Kate only with mouse/no keyboard input) 2- "signaler" will try without success to open firefox with myuser rights but accessing /root directory 2.a Firefox asks to create a Default profile but tries to write under /root/.mozilla/firefox/oics/xxx.Default User Even not possible to choose folder (not writable please ask admin) ! (no access rights /root/.kde4/share/config/... /root/.kde4/share/apps/...)! Then it opens KDE bug report ! no thanks. 2.b I will try without success from ctrl+alt+F2 root cmd line export DISPLAY=localhost:0.0 (I've tried many without success) firefox --> cannot open display 3- only Cairo-Dock is running correctly (as each time KDE is blacked) to allow me running programms like Kate or others 4. to store the error to send it now I've done as follow: a. ctrl+alt+F2, login as root b. lspcidrake-v >~user/filename1.txt c. ctl+alt+F1 (back to desktop) d. select the error text with mouse, right mouse menu copy text e. cairo-dock to start kate. Paste with mouse the error text. not possible to enter a filename2 without working keyboard. Tip: select a word in the text and save as: the word will be used by default as filename2. 5. no way to switch to other users (ctl+alt+ins does not work). I forgot to say in my description, that before running upgrade, the Mageia 3 preparation has been executed correctly as well as first reboot after that preparation. I've changed from critical to major as I'm still able to work with the system, BUT I've a mix of mga2 and mga3 with many things not correctly installed and running (plasma objects, KDE cube rotation not fluid, HW not recognized ...). Still considered as Major because an upgrade should work without problem. If any error, then the procedure should be able to replay previous configuration automatically. KR

SOLUTION: Following https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Mageia_3_Errata_Fr#Mise_.C3.A0_niveau I had checked before upgrade if any Adobe or JRE package have been installed. Looking for JRE I did not find anything and executed the upgrade bringing the error mentionned upper. In fact, searching for "java" packages I found a Mageia 1 (mga1) package named jre-1.6.0.26 for x86_64 among other java runtime packages of mga3. Look at bug https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10123. I've removed Java Runtime Environment 1.6.0.26 package from mga1 and applied explanations in http://www.mageialinux-online.org/forum/topic-15462+mise-a-jour-mageia-3-echouee-le-programme-mgaapplet-upgrade-helper-a-plante.php Concerning plymouthd failed, I've applied dracut -f as described in Errata and https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10128 I got through and hope system is ok. (I get a dbus crash but this may not be linked to mgaapplet-upgrade-helper. I look further on) Conclusion: Please be more explicit in wiki for none IT people. If simple user has to check for something then please give correct text_to_search. Thanks anyway for the job you done.
