Description Sascha Schroeder 2013-05-29 13:11:48 CEST
Description of problem:

In KDE 4.10.2 both weather plasmoid and LCD weather station do not work properly.
After configuring both plasmoids and placing them in the control bar they both show no icons.
Also, weather plasmoid says that it had taken too much time to load information from wetter.com.
You are also not able to click on the icons to load more information.

This bug also happens on a i586 machine.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

plasma-applet-weather 4.10.2
plasma-applet-weatherstation 4.10.2

How reproducible:

Steps to Reproduce:
1. install both applets (maybe one or both are already installed by default)
2. configure them
3. wait for the icons to load. Nothing will be visible
4. hover over the icons: you will see correct information
5. click on them: nothing will happen

I can confirm this. In KDE 4.10.4 (Testing) this Problem also exits. The comic plasmoid doesn't work, too.

The plasmoids should be re added on desktop or panel.

this was the first thing I tried, no change. I even tested with a complete new userprofile, without any effect.

@Christian Müller
problems in weather and comic seems distinct.
please, could you open a specific bug report for comic plasmoid problem, with the result of
  rpm -qa |grep comic

Nope, it's a packaging issue. I'm working on it; it's already fixed in svn.

[X] done :)

The packaging bug in plasma-applet-weather and plasma-applet-weatherstation (qml files wrongly packaged in plasma-wallpaper-qml) is fixed in plasma-applet-weather-4.10.4-2.mga3 and plasma-applet-weatherstation-4.10.4-2.mga3 in updates_testing.
They will be part of upcoming update to KDE 4.10.5.

I'm sorry, but I can't confirm that. I just installed all KDE-related updates from updates_testing, rebooted my system, but the bug is still there.

Doesn't work for me.

Disabled both entries in services.

BTW, what is shorewall?? Is this crucial? Do I need this?
Comment 14 Dimitrios Glentadakis 2013-07-08 19:30:37 CEST
First delete the plasmoids of weather from plasma. After disable the shorewall from mcc - security - personal firewall. After that you have to restart kde or better reboot and configure the weather plasmoid from the begining.

personaly i disable the firewall, actually i am behind a router which has already a firewall.
Comment 15 Dimitrios Glentadakis 2013-07-08 19:36:02 CEST
The plasmoid-applet-yawp works ?
Comment 16 Dave Hodgins 2013-07-09 04:09:48 CEST
I doubt this has anything to do with shorewall, which is used to open
ports for connections, and should not be disabled. If you want to stop
the firewall from blocking connections, use "shorewall clear". Note
that clearing shorewall will not survive a reboot.

If shorewall is blocking outgoing connections, it's likely that the
interface being used is not listed in /etc/shorewall/interfaces.

Comment 17 Christian Müller 2013-07-14 16:52:50 CEST
There is no correlation to shorewall, it is disabled on my system since the beginning. I noticed that the plasmoid once loads weather data correctly on KDE startup, but then fails to update, or even fails on trying to (re)configure.
Comment 18 Christian Müller 2013-08-12 16:00:30 CEST
Just updatet to KDE 4.10.5 from updates_testing, no changes.
Comment 19 John Balcaen 2013-08-17 20:56:39 CEST
i can't reproduce here with 4.10.5, both applets are working.

Comment 20 Christian Müller 2013-08-18 00:48:02 CEST
Just did some testing with LCD weatherstation, and to me it looks like some services work, and some not. If I choose e.g. 'Muenster, Germany(Nordrhein-Westfalen) (accuweather)', weather data is loaded correctly once, and then it runs into a timeout. This is since I upgraded from Mageia2. Also I noticed that translation of the display is not complete (German). 'Temperatur' is correct, but 'Pressure' and 'Humidity' stays English.
Comment 21 Dimitrios Glentadakis 2013-08-18 07:23:26 CEST
For me two weather plasmoids works only if i choose a place from bbcukmet.
But the yawp works fine
Does yawp plasmoid works for you ?
Comment 22 Christian Müller 2013-08-18 14:57:15 CEST
Seems to be an upgrading issue: Just did a fresh install of Mageia3 on a friend's box and noticed I have no accuweather service at all in both plasmoids. Both my laptop and desktop are upgraded from Mageia2, and there I have, but it doesn't work.
Comment 23 Sascha Schroeder 2013-09-01 16:55:34 CEST
As of KDE 4.10.5 is working again: I see the weather icon and the information also.

Seems almost 4 months of bugfixing paid off. ^^

Just did a fresh install of Mageia3 x64 with all updates, and accuweather is still not working. Loads data on KDE-startup, but fails to update then.
Comment 26 Dave Hodgins 2013-09-21 23:55:15 CEST
I'm using the yawp widget, with accuweather, and it's working ok.

I use LCD-weatherstation. This doesn't work with accuweather. Yawp works for me, too.

It is 4 or 5 years now that this plasmoid did nt work for me with accuweather
I think it works only with some specific providers. I remember tried many times at the past. Even if accuweather is proposed in the settings of the program dont use because it does nt work
