Description Koos Uys 2013-05-26 16:17:02 CEST
I installed Mageia 3 on my Dell D630 Laptop and everything seems to work smooth. I used the build in Wi-Fi to connect to my router.

After this, I installed it on my desktop computer.

However, immediately after login, it was impossible to connect via eth0 to the internet. When configuring the port, everything goes through to the last screen and when I want to connect, the GUI is switched to a text screen with a long output which I cannot copy and paste as the computer hangs up.

The most important line could perhaps be one of the forst lines:

[143.145265] BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 0000000000000010

I get the same problem when using my Wi-Fi dongle.

As a test, I then switched off the Wi-Fi on my laptop and connected via cable. Exactly the same thing happened.

Network Error

Tis is the output from my laptop screen.

I also installed Mageia 3 i-586 and have exactly the same behaviour.

Right. The problem was sovled by installing "networkamanager".

I do not understand why it was not installed, but clicking this option that the interface should be controlled by networkmanager, solved the problem.

I had one more kernel panic when I selected that the interface should be started, but after the reboot I am online.

Mageia 3 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status 4 months ago.
http://blog.mageia.org/en/2014/11/26/lets-say-goodbye-to-mageia-3/

Mageia 3 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Mageia
please feel free to click on "Version" change it against that version of Mageia
and reopen this bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
