Description Jim Beard 2013-05-24 18:08:40 CEST
Description of problem: At the top left of the GNOME desktop, "Activities" appears. If clicked it is supposed to present "Activities Overview" information and links that would allow me to configure which of my laptop's video cards should be used for the main screen.

When I click on Activities, the dash appears on the left of the screen, and below the word Activities at the top left there is a white line that appears to be the top of a menu or something, but the desktop background prevents seeing or choosing it.

I am guessing at the rpm package responsible.

My new hp laptop has an NVIDIA GT 650M card, that is useless at best and a cause of problems at worst, because the laptop also has an Intel 3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller (probably built into the motherboard) and HDMI and VGA ports for an external monitor. drakx11 recognizes multihead displays and configures both the Intel and NVIDIA displays, but the chipset used is the Intel.

The nouveau driver is selected by drakx11 for the NVIDIA card, but when I try to log out of the GNOME desktop I sometimes get an infiniteloop of error messages citing the nouveau driver.

I have gone through the BIOS settings, to no avail. No mention of displays or how to configure them. machine is hp dv7-7292nr laptop.

The bug may not be what I thought. I found a functon-key that should present "Activities Overview" and it provided a system settings window I had seen earlier.

My basic problem remained, though, in that there was nothing in those settings that would allow me to reassign monitors as primary, secondary, etc.

I suspect the GNOME system settings software is not recognizing the NVIDIA card, and therefore not presenting any choices. MCC, drakx11, XFdrake, hwinfo, hardinfo, and everything else recognizes that the system has two cards, so I cannot fathom why GNOME would not.

Mageia 3 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status 4 months ago.
http://blog.mageia.org/en/2014/11/26/lets-say-goodbye-to-mageia-3/

Mageia 3 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Mageia
please feel free to click on "Version" change it against that version of Mageia
and reopen this bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
