Hello, I face a little issue : not having the automatic notification that a new release of Mageia is available, I decided to follow the documentation and used the following command : sudo mgaapplet-upgrade-helper --new_distro_version=3 This opens a gtk window displaying the following non-explicit error message : "Unable to download distro list" I have no idea what is wrong in the setup. In the media manager, all my sources are set to $MIRRORLIST. All repositories are enabled, including Backports, except the Testing ones that are disabled. I do not know what useful information I could add at the present time. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): mgaonline-2.77.33-1.9.mga1 How reproducible: Always (blocking smooth upgrade) Thank you by advance. Reproducible: Steps to Reproduce:
are the urls http://mirrors.mageia.org/api/mageia.3.x86_64.list and https://releases.mageia.org/api/b/x86_64 accessible ? (btw mgaapplet should notify now that there is a new distro)

Yes, these two urls are accessible. Retried today, and I finally get a more meaningful message in return : Exception caught Exception: [metalink_helper.cc:130] errorCode=20 Could not parse Metalink XML document. unable to retrieve distro list I don't know why this did not show up before.
seems an aria issue imho maybe you can try with forcing to use wget: add: { downloader: wget } at the top of your /etc/urpmi/urpmi.cfg file
It works with wget. So there is something wrong with aria indeed.
After a bit more testing, here is what I can tell : setting 'wget' as downloader works without a single quirk... setting 'aria' as downloader works, but shows the following message : "aria is unavailable, using aria2 x86_64?product=Default&version=2&mgaonline_version=2.77.33 downloaded" setting 'aria2' as downloader does not work and displays the "unable to download distro list" error message, along with the "[metalink_helper.cc:130] errorCode=20 Could not parse Metalink XML document" exception. I have not yet upgraded, allowing me to offer more information on the current issue. Aria2's package on my system is the latest available (aria2-1.14.2-2.mga2.x86_64).

I have to admitt that I dont know how to fix this.
This message is a reminder that Mageia 2 is nearing its end of life. Approximately one month from now Mageia will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Mageia 2. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX (EOL) if it remains open with a Mageia 'version' of '2'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Mageia version prior to Mageia 2's end of life. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Mageia 2 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Mageia, you are encouraged to click on "Version" and change it against that version of Mageia. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Mageia release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. -- The Mageia Bugsquad
Mageia 2 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on ''22 November''. Mageia 2 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Mageia please feel free to click on "Version" change it against that version of Mageia and reopen this bug. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed. -- The Mageia Bugsquad
