Description Tim Launchbury 2013-05-23 10:21:58 CEST
Description of problem:

In mageia 2 when I plug my phone in it is automatically mounted so I can access the SD card. In mageia 3 it does not recognise it and therefore is not mounted.

Phone is a JCB TP802 Sitemaster which has a Mediatek MT6225 interface.
The usb ID is

Vendor Id: 0e8d
Product Id: 0002
Revision Number: 1.00

tail -f /var/log/syslog shows

Comment 2 Marja Van Waes 2015-03-31 16:06:27 CEST
Mageia 3 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status 4 months ago.
http://blog.mageia.org/en/2014/11/26/lets-say-goodbye-to-mageia-3/

Mageia 3 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Mageia
please feel free to click on "Version" change it against that version of Mageia
and reopen this bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.

I can confirm this bug.

My phone is a ZTE.
When I connect it with the usb cable it doesn't show up.
Neither in drakdisk and gparted or in a file manager like PCManFM.

(As root and after a dissabled usb_modeswitch ) the dmesg output shows:

   [ 3.879150] usb 4-2: New USB device found, idVendor=0e8d, idProduct=0002
   [ 3.879154] usb 4-2: New USB device strings: Mfr=2, Product=3, SerialNumber=4
   [ 3.879157] usb 4-2: Product: MT6225
   [ 3.879159] usb 4-2: Manufacturer: MediaTek Inc
   [ 3.879161] usb 4-2: SerialNumber: 53454740356071f

This link shows where the problem is:
   https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2302709

After setting...
   DisableSwitching=1
to...
   DisableSwitching=0
in file...
   /etc/usb_modeswitch.conf
and without restarting the computer
(just save the file and reconnect the usb cable),
the device showed up in PCManFM.
And I can copy files to the device.

Of course, this is a temporary solution.

In the link it suggests a command to create and add some settings to file...
   /etc/udev/rules.d/40-ignore-phone.rules

I tried that, but it didn't work.
Is it, maybe, a wrong file path for Mageia ?

I think that Mageia should, somehow, reconsider the usb rules for MT6225 devices.

My system is Mageia 6, 64bit.

It is usually better to file a new bug report, than to reopen such a very old one.... more of our packagers/developers read new bug reports ;-)

In case you didn't already do so, please read https://wiki.mageia.org/en/File_transfer_with_Android_devices (Since Firefox OS was discontinued, I suppose your phone runs Android)

CC'ing some people who know more about mounting smartphones than I do.

What is your desktop environment and what is the output of

rpm -qa | grep mtp ?

> I suppose your phone runs Android

No, it is an older phone. It has some kind of java operating system in it, I think. But you can not install software, or change many settings.

(After searching my bookmarks) it is a...
   ZTE R236

> It is usually better to file a new bug report

Maybe, but it would have been a duplicate one.

> What is your desktop environment and what is the output of

My window manager is...
   IceWM

and the output is...

[bash 4.3]$ rpm -qa | grep mtp
   gvfs-mtp-1.32.1-1.mga6
   simple-mtpfs-0.2-1.mga6
   lib64mtp9-1.1.13-1.mga6
   mtpfs-2.0-1.mga6
   libmtp-utils-1.1.13-1.mga6

Also...

   [bash 4.3]$ rpm -qa | grep usb_modeswitch
   usb_modeswitch-data-20160803-1.mga6
   usb_modeswitch-2.4.0-2.mga6

Mine is a Samsung A5
The system Mageia 6 also does not mount it.
It is normal : my sens there is an old bug : I do not know why , perhaps a coincidence , but in /etc/udev/rules.d/51-android-rule mode="xxxx" contains the Idproduct !!?? i do not know why. In my example i had mode="6860" . if you put for instance mode="0666" it operates (not perfectly)! but better. Sorry at the next update you have to re change it
