Description tim bos 2013-05-22 02:39:45 CEST
Very bad display colors and behaviour when using default Mageia Oxygen settings (style, theme, window decorations, icons, etc.) in KDE system configuration. Changing the Oxygen settings to lower configs, higher, different effects, other color schemes, did not seem to make it better (or worse).

Only when changing to a different application-style, the problem almost entirely went away... EXCEPT in 3 locations (maybe more, but haven't seen yet).
Since I have tried many distros on this config. i never had any problems with my display, resolution colors or whatever. I decided to start making screenshots, also, because KDE had not popped up a crash report a single time.... Which was also unusual for me (Mageia ran brilliantly without ANY crash reports yet, or a single problem on KDE, which was new for me... there is always one thing that needs fixing on this laptop, but they are getting predictable.. (KDE clock still shows LOCAL time instead of UTC!!!)

Anyway, i just finished making about 30 screenshots in different setups and bla bla of the problem, AND when I closed the last window, this reporter shows up!!!!

HOORAH!!!! I was not sure yet how i was going too make a manual bug report, since never needed to in KDE... always popped up!!! So you even made a nice crash for me. It defenitly helps me save some time!!! Thanks!!!

So i really hope i can fix this problem/bug, but really not sure what exactly is causing it...

Switching to a different style seems to help alot, and switching back to the oygen style makes it reappear.

Some performance settings for animations, icons, desktop effects, etc. slightly reduces the problem, but the style change (in application appearance in kde system settings) have a much bigger impact... But whatever style I chose, in 3 places it still shows, which hopefully the pictures will show better... (if i can upload those after this step... I HOPE!!!) edit: yes i believe i can!

Thanks for distro, had alot of fun with it since release, and you even created a useful problem for me!!! Was almost bored and was afraid KDE forgot about Conky or something,... ;)

Ciao Tim

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

drakconf: drakconf-12.38-1.mga3.src.rpm
oxygen-gtk: not sure, the one which came with release... it's in my user/share/themes/ etc you know where you put it right? :)
itches.

How reproducible:

not. crash
only happened once. after few hours of settings changing, rebooting, making pictures, updating etc. trying to get rid of the ugly colors and glproblem.

Steps o Reproduce:

the problem still there while i am typing this. i eventually switched application style and the artifacts disappeared, and when switching back to oxygen, they reappear... in 3 places they artifacts are persistent thoitugh thru all styles.... made a few pics to show... Indicated below as major bug, since it hurts my eyes very much... its very ugly... and bad for my display i guess in the long run... BUT applications still work...

1. switch style in application styles KDE settings manager

right top corner of the menu (launcher)
previewing oxygen style in system settings (before apply)
preview of oxygen in window decorations, even when not selected. selecting it doesn't change anything though...
applying changes the application style would :O)

drakconf issue is bug #5272
99% of this bug is about oxygen-gtk glitches so let's reassign

Comment 5 Hugo Pereira Da Costa 2013-12-21 09:57:49 CET
what ?
There is no oxygen _at all_ in any of the two screenshots provided.
How can this be 99% oxygen related ?
Thierry ! please !
this is not good practive if you want to keep devs around.

@Tim to be honest I rather suspect issue with graphics card driver.

I'm unassigning myself, sorry.

ok. More details
The previews in the picture are indeed oxygen.
@Qt (so definitly not oxygen-gtk)
also there are some identical glitches in the panel (window decoration, application menu) which are also not oxygen.

To me: it looks like a probleme with your graphics card + Qt that is unable to render any gradient of any kind. (swith style to QtCurve and you will get the exact same issues I'm afraid).

- what is the color depth of your X11 setting
- what is your graphics card (NVidia ? Ati ?)
- what is the driver used by X11 ?
