The Blender Version in the current Mageia repo is outdated. The current Stable Blender Version is 2.57b, the Version in the Mageia Repo is 2.49b (relased in 2009). It would be cool to have the new Version in the Mageia Repo.

(In reply to comment #1) > need python3 > > *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 821 *** The Linux 32 and 64 bit Binaries from http://www.blender.org/download/get-blender/ are working well on Mageia and come with a bundled python 3.2 version. Python3 is only required to compile Blender. There is no need to compile Blender to create a RPM package for Mageia, it's "only" about copying the Blender Folder to the right location and to do the integration stuff (link to blender executable for the menu and linking blend files with the Blender executable).

but is also a duplicate bug :)
Please comment on #821 And for make a rpm we must compile Blender, IHMO. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 821 ***

Sure, but if it's not compiled, it can't exist in the repos in the Core repo, would have to go to nonfree (I am not even sure it can, without looking at the license). So 2.57b, unfortunately, can't be shipped for Mageia1. Re-closing as a dupe.
