Thanks for this bug report, and sorry for not answering before. Do you know if this bug is still present in Mageia 5 or Cauldron?
This bug is still present. Moreover, in Konsole arabic is misrendered. During the boot process too.. :(

All releases. Both, booting live and after installation. Konsole displays Arabic well. Other terminal applications do not, but that's up to the programmers of those terminal, I guess! As for GRUB and Mageia boot, Arabic is always improperly rendered!
I've tried to understand https://www.gnu.org/software/grub/manual/html_node/Internationalisation.html but am not sure I do. Anyway, assigning to all packagers collectively, since there is no maintainer for grub.

Looks similar to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gfxboot/+bug/119393 isn't it? Does it work better with Suse? Maybe we need to sync gfxboot with suse in order to get support for LTR? Latest Suse version is 4.5.10 where we're at 4.5.7. The changelog isn't promising but there's things we may want anyway such as: "work around memory corruption issue seen on hyper-v (bsc#876640)" We may want to resync bootloader-theme with the suse theme in case they fixed sg (see last comment of https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gfxboot/+bug/119393) I don't think ever really resync with suse since the initial import, it looks like we just bumped the version to match upstream...

Actually, latest is 4.5.13: http://sophie.zarb.org/rpms/00293b50b845b24f9254f3a922ccd1a5/changelog which contains a RTL fix for submenus so I hope it's fixed upstream

I bumped version to match upstream indeed, assuming that upstream was gfxboot: http://gitweb.mageia.org/software/design/bootloader-theme/commit/?id=a52ea98f98a12b506a568d8c008b2586659e5d9b If the version scheme was actually based on upstream bootloader-theme from SUSE, then the change was wrong yes (but it should be better documented in the Makefile/README).
Actually, there's only few real changes in gfxboot[1], most changes are in openSUSE.tar.xz : themes/openSUSE/src/common.inc | 52 ++++++++++++++++++++++ themes/openSUSE/src/main.bc | 1 themes/openSUSE/src/menu.inc | 93 +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++-------- Sadly, we did changes in those, so we would need to manually merge suse changes. I don't think we ever did some syncing with suse since importing their 4.1.19.1 work... [1] there's only one fix for testing by booting a qemu machine
Indeed on can check: git diff 4.1.19.32..4.4.5.1 |diffstat git diff 4.4.5.18..4.5.6.1 |diffstat

As tv mentioned, it might not fix this bug, but gfxboot 4.5.13 has been uploaded in Cauldron.
I tried the latest STA, still exist, after installing and updating the system, I don't know how to changed grub language to Arabic to test with updated system.

I tested again using MGA8 beta 2, there is no "Arabic" option in the grub menu, and the Arabic file names in the terminal look fine, I think we should close this. Regards Mustafa
Thanks. Closing.
