I install it on i586. When starting X, it complains about missing gxlinfo(?) package. Installer couldn't read installation DVD, btw.
can you try to manually install glxinfo ? if you can't because you have only have the dvd sources, you will need to go on tty1 in root and do : urpmi.addmedia core http://ftp-stud.hs-esslingen.de/pub/Mirrors/Mageia/distrib/cauldron/i586/media/core/release after the media configured urpmi glxinfo should install it. After all this done, please tell us if this works better. thank you.

i586 has wireless PCI. I may try it on x86_64 later on
On x86_64 urpmi.addmedia core http://ftp-stud.hs-esslingen.de/pub/Mirrors/Mageia/distrib/cauldron/x86_64/media/core/release ends with [...]curl failed: exited with 22 no metadata found for media
How are you starting X? I think when you use 'startx' it's trying to start drak3d which asks to install glxinfo. To start windowmaker, try: startx Swm I tested and it doesn't work, the /usr/bin/startswm script tries to run 'kdesktop --x-root'. kdesktop doesn't exist any more (it's a kde3 binary), unfortunately we should drop swm...

Yes, from $ startx, it starts drak3d and the one asks about glxinfo. Either $ sartx Swm or $ starx wmaker has a blue circle aronud mouse pointer, black screen and two terminal window open. BTW, installer asked about xdm installation and login is from CUI.
I installed gdm. It didn't show any WM. WindowMaker isn't in repositories. There is no xdm as well. I installed task-lxde anyway. Now gdm shows drak3d, openbox and LXDE.
WindowMaker isn't swm... my fault. :/
WindowMaker should be available on the mirrors soon, please test.

I installed WindowMaker after installing task-lxde GDM doesn't have it in a list. And WindowMaker doesn't list any applications present.

About WindowMaker not appearing in the GDM/KDM list try executing: su /usr/sbin/fndSession (this is due to a different bug that's being looked into). I don't know about applications in WindowMaker menu, looking into it (I've never used WindowMaker before..).
Summary: 1-alpha1: windowmaker installation doesn't start X => windowmaker installation doesn't start X
# /usr/sbin/fndSession added WindowMaker to the list
When I try to loggin the loggin program tells me that I'm trying to run drak3d and ask me for autendication and then tell me that the hardware don't can handle 3D and then put me back to the logginwindow. There I will be in an infinit loop. Thats what happends after the last big update 2 days ago (5 Mars). The only way to logg in is in safe mode. I'm running the OS in VMware Workstation 7.1.3

(This is the loginwindow) I have no choise of KDM, GDM, etc. I only have the choise of: default custom drak3d failsafe If I doesn't chose anything it will choise drak3d as default.
KDM and GDM are display managers. And if you don't see WindowMaker in the list with drak3d, custom, failsafe then it's not installed, so first install WindowMaker then try logging into it.
Will you please tell me how I install the WindowMaker package from konsole. Also tell me the pakacges name, please. I have done a urpmi --auto-select
urpmi windowmaker.
Installing WindowMaker did not get me to the KDE. kdm is runing and I have no possibility to login to the GUI. Something get wrong with the latest upgrade. I think I have to wait to Alfa 2 and see if the problem still exist.
Now I discover the problem. At an update the KDE-package disapeared. Today (Mars 10) when I did a big update I discover that the KDE-package was not installed. After installing the package I get the possibility to loggin with KDE.
(In reply to comment #11) > I don't know about applications in WindowMaker menu, looking into it (I've > never used WindowMaker before..). @Palm Pre: I tested again today and the Applications menu suddenly works, I am not sure which update fixed it though (maybe the broken rpm filetriggers were what caused the problem? they've been fixed some time ago), could test again with latest updates?
ping ? issue resolved ?

As I remember, WindowMaker wasn't included on iso (DVD?). Drakx had an option for custom installation with WindowMaker. It works, but ... Next release should have it on media or eliminate the option.
WindowMaker is included in the dvd: http://distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr/pub/linux/Mageia/iso/1/mageia-dvd-1-i586.idx I close, if the bug reappears with the isos of Mageia 2 (alpha, beta,... ), feel free to reopen. Thanks,
