It's not only missing in French - in fact, it is untranslatable. As discussed in mailing list (see http://archives.mageia.org/zarb-ml/mageia-i18n/2013-January/003813.html), there sadly is now even not possible to translate it.

that's what happens when someone decides to rewrite something in another language without thinking about other things such as i18n or putting in place infrastructure for po/

It should not be hard for someone to add stuff in order to extract strings into po/net_monitor.po.
And also patching net_monitor to use its own gettext domain instead of msec one.

Thierry, he did, in fact have i18n in place, as he imports gettext and wrapped all strings. and from the looks of it it does have its own gettext domain "net_monitor", ill try to add some kind of script this weekend to make it easier for translators to, well translate... From my experince its better to create the po files for them so they just have to translate the strings. But i dont know whats common around here, so please enlighten me if i'm wrong...

Reread what I wrote: That's exactly what I say.
It lacks po/ infrastructure:
- no extractions of strings
- no catalog creation

I18n isn't just tagging the strings as translatable and calling gettext.
That's just the basics if you don't put in place the infrastructure for translators, it's useless and it's not I18N.
L10N is not yet possible
Comment 5 Derek Jennings 2013-09-01 13:29:47 CEST
Work in Progress

Mandriva no longer have net_monitor in their git so the only upstream source is eugeni's account at github which sadly we know cannot be updated.

So if no one objects I will upload net_monitor to mageia git.

we now have it on git.

you can look to translate it, create the po files, etc.

Can you indicate where it is stored?
And add it on this page: https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Git_Migration

The .pot file is available here:
http://gitweb.mageia.org/software/net_monitor/tree/po/net_monitor.pot
However, it is very incomplete.
Comment 10 Nicolas Lécureuil 2013-10-05 23:01:00 CEST
what is missing ?
Comment 11 papoteur 2013-10-06 09:24:05 CEST
The actual net_monitor.pot contains 11 terms for the state of a port and 4 others sentences, comming from src/monitor.py
The sentences from
src/net_monitor
src/_native.c
plasma/applet/contents/code/main.py
plasma/applet/metadata.desktop
are not included.

Only src/net_monitor seems to be internationalized.
