Description Lip Goh 2013-04-27 08:47:22 CEST
Could not boot new kernel kernel 3.8.10-desktop-1.mga3 , fallback to 3.8.8.
Dkms modules appear to install correctly, there's "nokmsboot" in grub2 entry and initrd.img appears to be created correctly.

Booting hangs after the line " Reached Graphical Interface".

Currently using.....
[pop@localhost ~]$ uname -r
3.8.8-desktop-3.mga3 (x86_64 x86_64 x86_64)
[pop@localhost ~]$ lsb_release -a
LSB Version: *
Distributor ID: Mageia
Description: Mageia 3
Release: 3
Codename: thornicroft
[pop@localhost ~]$

ps :using only grub2, uninstalled grub-legacy.

Problem resolved. Later updates of proprietary graphic driver created a new dkms module for kernel 3.8.10 enabling the kernel to boot.

Sorry for the noise.
