You should report the bug upstream. CC:

balcaen.john what is upstream in this case? Mandriva? In other distributions similiar packages holding the translations are fine, so this does not seem to be a bug of QT4, but of the package. From my point of view, upstream here is Qt. I mean avidemux, pokerth, psi are explicitely adding some additional translation for Qt, i doubt they're doing it only for one distribution aka mandriva originally but because they're probably facing the problem on others distributions too. Maybe we should *patch* our Qt to add thoses translations indeed, but it should also be reported on Qt Ok after a second look there's in fact 2 things : -) our qt_*.qm are indeed empty because of a packaging error it should be fixed with the next qt package qt4-4.7.2-3.mga1 -) others packages will still provide thoses qt_*.qm files because they're providing the qt_*.qm if they have additional translation not included in qt4 they should merged them upstream (Qt here) I'm closing as fixed since as you mentionned because our qt4-common was providing empty qm files. the general qt translations for typical UI elements ("Yes", "ok", "No", "Abort", ...) are completly broken - indeed the qt_*.qm files are empty, so the generation of them is obviously wrong handled. this problem already appeared in Mandriva for quite some time, but although it was often mentioned, it was never fixed, which is the reason, why quite some programs provide their own copy of the qt translations. e.g. the output of urpmf -f qt_de.qm is: texmakerx-2.0-1.mga1.x86_64:/usr/share/texmakerx/qt_de.qm texmaker-2.2.1-1.mga1.x86_64:/usr/share/texmaker/qt_de.qm musescore-1.0-1.mga1.x86_64:/usr/share/mscore-1.0/locale/qt_de.qm kdesvn-1.5.5-2.mga1.x86_64:/usr/share/svnqt/i18n/svnqt_de.qm avidemux-qt-2.5.4-4.mga1.x86_64:/usr/share/avidemux/i18n/qt_de.qm pokerth-0.8.3-2.mga1.x86_64:/usr/share/pokerth/data/translations/qt_de.qm lastfm-player-1.5.4.27091-3.mga1.x86_64:/usr/share/lastfm/i18n/qt_de.qm virtualbox-4.0.4-6.mga1.x86_64:/usr/share/virtualbox/nls/qt_de.qm qt3-common-3.3.8b-25.mga1.x86_64:/usr/lib/qt3/translations/qt_de.qm qt4-common-4.7.2-2.mga1.x86_64:/usr/lib/qt4/translations/qt_de.qm psi-lang-pack-de-0.14-7.mga1.x86_64:/usr/share/psi/qt_de.qm with exception of kdesvn and qt*-common, all these files provide the same translation files that should normally be provided by the qt4-common package.
