I can't reproduce in a VM CC:
(none) =>
thierry.vignaud (In reply to Manuel Hiebel from comment #1) > I can't reproduce in a VM Tested/reproduced on VirtualBox (version 4.1.24), QEMU (qemu-kvm-1.0) and several PCs. Can you go on tty1, 3 & 4 when the GUI freeze and see if there's any interesting message? Also you could plug an USB key (even to virtualbox), and run the "bug" command on tty2 Keywords:
(none) =>
NEEDINFO The error occurs on the *first* installation screen (after booting from the dvd); tty2,3 etc. aren't available at this point. Please see this screenshot: http://imagebin.org/251028 This problem is still present in Mageia 3 beta 4. I cannot reproduce. I choose Magyar, then I agree with the license, then it detects IDE card, ... Hardware:
i586 =>
x86_64 I tested on every available computer, 32/64-bit, AMD&Intel CPUs etc. To avoid any misunderstandings, I repeat the steps to reproduce: * Boot from the DVD (Mageia-3-beta4-x86_64-DVD.iso image in this case) * On the first screen (which contains: "Boot from Hard Disk", "Install Mageia 3", "Rescue System", "Memory Test", "Hardware Detection Tool"; the bottom menu contains: F1 Help, F2 Language, F3 800 x 600, F4 DVD, F5 Driver, F6 Kernel Option) press the F2 key and select "Magyar" from the list. From this moment, the keyboard won't react to any keypresses (not even Ctrl-Alt-Del), and the PC must be reseted/powered off. That would be sysconfig conf then (from bcd?) Source RPM:
(none) =>
bcd (In reply to Thierry Vignaud from comment #8) > That would be sysconfig conf then (from bcd?) Can you explain a bit more please? See Comment #7 : When, at at isolinux prompt (ie _before_ starting stage1), he selects "Magyar" (in F3 menu from isolinux/gfxboot.*), isolinux seems to stop accepting keypresses (maybe some gfxboot script is busy looping ???). This bug may somehow be related to the length of the translated string(s): if the âRendszerindÃtási paraméterekâ string (âBoot Optionsâ in English) is shortened to âRendszerindÃtási param.â, the problem does not occur any more. (I tested this by modifying hu.tr contained in /x86_64/isolinux/bootlogo) If you are ok with it we can shorten it and workaround that problem Yes, that's OK. Committed and submitted. It will be added in RC isos. Can you please test it using network install ? It should be available within 2 hours on public mirrors The network installer does not include this language selection step, so I'll test it when the RC will be available. Anne, comment #0 says that at least "isiZulu" & "isiXhosa" would need to be fixed too... Tested Mageia-3-RC-i586-DVD.iso - unfortunately, the problem is not solved: the âRendszerindÃtási paraméterekâ string was not replaced with âRendszerindÃtási param.â (although this change does not reveal the *cause* of the problem, but at least it works). The file which contains this string is hu.tr, contained in i586/isolinux/bootlogo @anyone: please review if this is valid against current installer (M5) because older ones will not be fixed. If not, please be so kind to close as OLD. Thanks. It's fixed for Magyar. But "isiZulu" & "isiXhosa" are still broken Severity:
normal =>
major I'll try to review all languages to see what needs fixed, IIRC a while ago when I investigated the Ukrainian language issue, many languages were broken.
Selecting Hungarian (Magyar) language on the first installer screen freezes the installer. =>
Selecting certain languages in the bootloader freezes the installer If you want, you can pinpoint the bogus strings in mageia-gfxboot-theme by rebuilding/updating it and rebooting to grub graphic

Release (media or process) (In reply to Rémi Verschelde from comment #21) > Languages that freeze gfxboot: > - ÐÑлгаÑÑки (bg.po) % Bulgarian > - á¥áá áá£áá (ka.po) % Kartuli > - isiXhosa (xh.po) % Xhosa > - isiZulu (zu.po) % Zulu For Hungarian, this got worked around by shortening the translation of "Boot Options" in bootloader-theme/po/hu.po to 22 characters (counting space as a character). Bulgarian currently has 24: Параметри на зареждането Kartuli 23: ჩარტვირთვის პარამეტრები Xhosa 29: Izikhethwa Zomiselo Lwenkqubo Zulu 27: Okukhethwa Kukho Kokuqalisa So, if this issue persists, it would be good to ask the translators for shorter translations. Does someone care to try whether this still is an issue? CC:
(none) =>
marja11, yurchor Should be fixed now. All translations were shortened to "Options" (it should be obvious to find the boot options underneath), as it was done for Ukrainian. Status:
