Description William Oliver 2013-03-18 14:07:51 CET
Description of problem: Cannot activate ALFA AWUS051NH usb wireless adapter

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): See above

How reproducible: Every time

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Install Mageia beta
2.Do updates (e.g. to 3.8.3 kernel)
3.Plug in adapter

Get the following error in journalctl:

kernel: phy1->rt2x00lib_request_firmware: Error - Failed to request firmware

Config: Toshiba satellite L875D-S7232 laptop. AMD chips w/ builtin radeon graphics. kernel 3.8.3-desktop-1.mga3, x86-64 KDE desktop

Adapter works on another box running Mint, and had worked on this box when running Fedora 18. I didn't test it right after installing Mageia beta 3, so I don't know if the original kernal worked with it or not. I'll check if I get a chance.

I don't know if this is worth making a high priority -- this is an old adapter card. However, it's what I use when the onboard adapter breaks (as happened -- bug 9424)

I'll back out to the original disk installation and see if it works with the 3.8.1 kernel.

Yep. Just booted from the live DVD with the 3.8.1 kernel. It recognizes the adapter and connects to the network just fine.
Comment 2 William Oliver 2013-03-18 14:44:00 CET
Well, I re-installed and now there is no notification that I need to update to the 3.8.3 kernel. Maybe I installed an inappropriate software source...
Comment 3 William Oliver 2013-03-18 21:50:15 CET
Please see my comments for but 9424 -- this went away when I reinstalled from the Live DVD *and* did the updates. So, it's not reproducible upon reinstallation. I'm removing the bug report. Sorry about that.
