Hello,
just a comment. Inside Mandriva aircrack-ng package, wesside-ng is not present (see https://qa.mandriva.com/show_bug.cgi?id=61298). Is it possible to put it also in aircrack-ng package?

It is valid to request aircrack-ng for Mga 1, because it is in Mdv 2010.x, so no need for it to be backported

Maybe you could package also svn version because version 1.1 had this problem (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/aircrack-ng/+bug/602609).
So it is rather useless. Svn version fixes this issue.

There is now aircrack-ng-1.1-1.1.mga1 in core/updates_testing to validate
-------------------------------------------------------

Suggested advisory:
-------------------
This update adds aircrack-ng, a suite of programs to test the security of a wireless network to Mageia 1.

-------------------------------------------------------
Steps to reproduce:

- install the update candidate
- maybe http://www.aircrack-ng.org/doku.php?id=getting_started or http://www.aircrack-ng.org/doku.php?id=simple_wep_crack can help testing it

No, we would need the exact patch which fixes the problem. Also please open another bugreport for this particular problem. This one is only for the package request and to validate it.

I can't test this myself right now, but can provide the testing procedure.

Create a new directory and cd to it.
To capture the data from a wireless network run (as root)

airmon-ng start wlan0
airodump-ng --write testing mon0 -d 5C:D9:98:68:F5:98 -c 2

The hex value is the mac address of the router. The number after the -c
is the channel that router is using. For testing cracking of
a wep password, temporarily set the security on the router to wep.

You need a second wireless device to generate traffic on the wireless
network, for airodump-ng to capture. Once you've captured some data,
press ctrl+c to end the capture, then, to clean things up, run
airmon-ng stop wlan0
airmon-ng stop mon0
rm -f /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-mon0

To test cracking the key run
aircrack-ng -x2 -f 990 -a 1 -s -b 5C:D9:98:68:F5:98 -l password.out.txt *.cap

If it fails, you'll have to kill it from another terminal, and then
rerun the capture to get more data, until there is enough for the
crack to work.

I have tested the capture on my i586 system, but don't have a second
wireless device to generate traffic during the capture, so it would take
weeks to capture enough arp traffic for the crack to work.

Comment 11 Manuel Hiebel 2011-12-30 15:43:22 CET
I have not test the traffic generate, but for me it's works (x86_64)
thanks.
Comment 12 Dave Hodgins 2012-01-13 19:23:59 CET
I finally managed to collect enough data to test the crack. Validating the
update.

Could someone from the sysadmin team push the srpm
aircrack-ng-1.1-1.1.mga1.src.rpm
from Core Updates Testing to Core Updates.

Advisory: This update adds aircrack-ng, a suite of programs to test
the security of a wireless network, which was present in Mandriva 2010.2,
but missing from Mageia 1.
