Description claire robinson 2013-03-07 17:29:26 CET
Default KDE installation from 3beta3 classic dvd 32 (7th March)

I've noticed this in mga2 occasionally aswell

Kde installs ok but boots with no volume control. When the panel/menu is clicked the desktop appears to freeze, clicking on anything other than the network applet (gtk iinm) has no effect.

After approximately 2 minutes everything catches up and all that has been clicked opens at once, but still no volume control.

The soundcard is recognised and using snd_hda_intel module.

I'm not sure if this is a pulseaudio problem or kde problem so adding both in CC

I've noticed that on mga2, if I restart kde it will boot with the volume control and not lock/hang so I think it's definitely related to that somehow.

Also starting kmix from a terminal sits without actually doing anything

journalctl -a --no-pager > journal.txt

Shows a couple of kernel oops which seem related to pulseaudio and ivtv.

Possibly due to missing firmware on the iso (bug 9284)

Comment 5 claire robinson 2013-03-07 18:24:43 CET
On mga2 when this happens there is no ivtv card and it's x86_64 so PA/ivtv & kernel oops could be a 'red herring'
Comment 6 claire robinson 2013-03-07 20:06:24 CET
LXDE installed on the same machine from the same ISO fails to start the DE. It sits with the background and a spinning cursor.

Switching to a tty I can see the same kernel oops in the journal so that is likely the same problem on both lxde and kde.
Comment 7 Nicolas Lécureuil 2013-03-07 20:13:22 CET
could be interesting to have kernel oops

Sorry, but this bug saw no action since over 2 yrs ago.
No cauldron package has stayed the same since then.

Closing as OLD

Please reopen if this report is still valid for _current_ cauldron and/or fully
updated Mageia 4
