Description claire robinson 2013-03-05 16:09:27 CET
Network Center shows' Wireless (Wi-Fi) ATHER USB2.0 WLAN' as one adapter
and also 'Wireless (Wi-Fi) wlan0' as another adapter.

There is only one wifi adapter which should use carl9170 driver.

Clicking the first one gives an error 'Unable to find network interface
for selected device (using carl9170 driver)' as does clicking Configure
when it is opened.

The wlan0 one is able to be opened, sees networks, can be configured and
connects.

This also happens during network configuration after reboot installing from livedvd.

Derek could this be related to the patch for negative signal strength?

Comment 2 Sander Lepik 2013-03-05 16:32:24 CET
It's not. It shows two interfaces as one is probably known by Mageia tools and the other is there as the kernel supports it with some sort of open driver. At least this is the reason for some Broadcom devices being shown twice.

It's atheros which uses the open carl9170 driver though, not broadcom.

Setting release blocker as this is present on all live isos which can't be fixed after release.

Priority: Normal => release_blocker

Comment 7 AL13N 2013-04-23 13:25:38 CEST
is this really release critical? it definatly can't be fixed on live iso, but one of the two interfaces actually work right? so, it's more of a display bug?

You think reviewers/novices/the community will see it that way? Please don't be too hasty to dismiss this type of bug.

I think it is actually fixed now, didn't notice it with last tests but I can't check RC live isos until tomorrow so can't say.
Comment 9 AL13N 2013-04-23 16:37:26 CEST
i'm not being dismissive about this, but i mean purely from a technical standpoint this might be less important than being unable to install or data crash.

i'm pretty sure reviewers/novices won't see it this way, but with about one week left until release and the RC already being out, i doubt it'll get fixed IF it's not already fixed :-)

All the more reason not to reduce priority then. We shouldn't be shipping releases with obvious bugs like this.

It would give a bad impression of the quality of the distro as a whole and not likely to encourage new contributors.

I'll check the lives tomorrow.
