Description Daniel Kjellin 2013-03-04 06:15:24 CET
Description of problem:
I have a laptop with a fresh (no additional packages installed) installation from the live Gnome dvd. It auto logs me in when the laptop starts, if I chose "log out" from the menu I can not log back in again. I get taken to the GDM screen and see my username, if I click on it, it gets focus but no password prompt comes up, and I can not enter the password (I tried). A few seconds later it goes back to the normal gdm greeter with usernames listed.

If I click the "not listed?" link and enter my username it states "Invalid UTF-8" and returns me to the login screen.

This could possibly be related to https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9244
as I have not removed unused locales. I run English/Australian locale.

Only by rebooting can I get in again. When I select "reboot" from the GDM greeter it prompts me for my password and I can enter it fine and the machine reboots.

gdm greeter log from /var/log/gdm

I've attached a number of log files, they contain a few errors, but I can not judge if they are relevant. Let me know if I can provide more information, or gather any other logs. Also I realise I forgot to mention in the report that my username is plain ascii "daniel" (without quotes obviously).

seems strange, have you try a new fresh install of the beta3 if you can reproduce ?
Comment 6 Manuel Hiebel 2013-03-19 01:13:32 CET
seems related issue in bug 9242, olav if you have an idea.

CC: (none) => olav

Comment 7 Daniel Kjellin 2013-03-21 10:58:45 CET
I will try a clean install (keeping home dir) with beta 3 in the next few days.
Comment 8 Daniel Kjellin 2013-03-25 01:48:40 CET
This seems to have been resolved. Doing "grep -r "ERROR" /var/log/gdm returns no results. Please close this bug as it is fixed in beta 3
Comment 9 Manuel Hiebel 2013-05-07 02:01:17 CEST
close it yourself next time thanks

I have contributed to a number of open source projects, and many of them, do not want me as a reporter to close them. I will in the future close bugs I open once fixed. It was my ignorance of the process Mageia uses that made me leave it open.

ah didn't know that, no worry ;)
