x264 support was disabled in Mandriva's MythTV package in 2010 at Colin Guthries suggestion. A note in the changelog says re-enable when the bug is fixed.

I cannot find any references on the web regarding why x264 was disabled, but I have recompiled mythtv-0.25-20120418.3 with libx264 and it appears to work OK now.  

I was able to run streaming x264 to an Android mythTV front end.

It can be closed as on mga6 and Cauldron support x264 was enabled in Tainted repo!

So closing!
