Description Marcello Anni 2011-04-19 17:08:43 CEST
Description of problem:

hi,

i've discovered however plasma didn't start after my update of the system from mandriva 2010.2 One KDE to mageia 1 beta 1. i've noticed that the file:

libplasma3-4.6.1-8.mga1.i586.rpm

even if present, hasn't been updated. after i did it manually the KDE4 desktop starts without issues. Can you investigate about this issue? thanks

Cheers,
Marcello

libplasma3-4.6.2-1.mga1.i586.rpm is not available on your mirror ?

You should have used the old bug report instead of creating a new one btw & marking the old one as duplicated of the new one.

in reply to comment #2:

it is available both in the DVD than in the mirror, simply it hasn't been updated, i don't know why.

in reply to comment #3:

at the beginning i didn't notice the similarity, after i chose this one because that other was generical, while this is clearer.

I guess i'm lost here.

you were using libplasma3-4.6.1-8.mga1.i586.rpm while other kdelibs package where already 4.6.2-0 on the dvd ?
or some of your kdelibs package where updated except for libplasma3 which was still using libplasma3-4.5.5-0.1mdv2010.2.i586.rpm ?

could you attach /root/drakx/report.bug.gz we'll be able to read all rpm transaction & eventually noticed a specific conflict which can explain why this library did not get updated.
Comment 6 Marcello Anni 2011-04-20 13:02:12 CEST
i try to explain better my problem:

1 - i had mandriva 2010.2 with KDE 4.4 (or 4.5, it doesn't matter)

2 - i used mageia 1 beta 1 DVD to update my mandriva box to have the Mageia system

3 - in the update process i don't receive any error but it results in KDE not usable

4 - i discovered libplasma3 package wasn't updated with libplasma3-4.6.1-8.mga1.i586.rpm that was available on mageia dvd.

5 - if you update manually KDE returns usable.

i opened the report.bug.gz file you suggested me, here is the error i've found:

libplasma3 not installed, unpacking of archive failed on file /usr/lib/libplasma.so.3.0.0;4dad9858: cpio: read failed - Resource temporarily unavailable

that's all :-)

ok so it can explain why it was not updated.
Just in case do you still have the dvd ?
Did you check dvd checksum ?
do you have any others errors regarding unpacking rpm in the report.bug.gz ?
could you attach it to this bug report ? :)

Component: RPM Packages => Installation

Comment 8 Marcello Anni 2011-04-20 16:49:08 CEST
yes, i still have the dvd, i checked the md5sum before burning it.

there are no others errors regarding unpacking rpm, do i attach the file anyway?
Comment 9 John Balcaen 2011-04-20 17:34:00 CEST
Yes please.
Also could you reproduce your issue with the same dvd upgrading again a 2010.1 (in a virtualbox for example) ?

Created attachment 265 [details]
report.bug.gz

yes, i can reproduce it (right now anyway i need a working system, maybe when beta2 is on the way i can try once more if you need).

This does look like a defective DVD disc, or a bad burn...
Comment 12 John Balcaen 2011-05-05 17:14:26 CEST
Are you able to reproduce with beta2
