Description of problem:

The mouse buttons quit working after a while of browsing the Web with either Firefox or Chrome. This seems to happen when I attempt to middle click (using the mouse's scroll wheel). Sometimes, I was attempting to close a tab with a middle click and other times I was attempting to open a link in a new tab. In either case, the middle click does nothing and the mouse buttons stop working. I can still move the mouse around the screen after the buttons stop working, and, the keyboard continues to function.

Note that I'm using KDE and a Logitech PS/2 mouse. The Mageia Control Center shows that I'm using the "Universal > Any PS/2 & USB mice" driver. Unplugging the mouse and plugging it back in does not fix the problem. After restarting the X server, the may buttons might work for a couple of minutes but then quickly stop working again. Rebooting the OS restores the full functionality of the mouse (until the problem crops up again a couple of hours later).

How reproducible:
This has been happening consistently for the past few days. Note that you have to be actively browsing the Web for a couple of hours before the mouse buttons stop functioning.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Run either Firefox or Chrome.
2. Browse the web for a couple of hours, opening and closing multiple tabs.
3. Use the middle mouse button to close tabs and to open links in new tabs.
4. Eventually, the mouse buttons will stop functioning.

I just tried plugging in a USB mouse instead of the PS/2 mouse and I encountered the exact same issue. So, this issue affects both USB and PS/2 mice.

Note that this issue happens for both the 3.6.5-tmb-desktop-3.mga3 kernel and the 3.7.1-desktop-1.mga3 kernel. (I haven't been able to get the 3.8.0-desktop-0.rc4.1.mga3 kernel to boot.)

I continue to experience this issue at least a couple of times a day. I've also found that it can happen when I'm middle-clicking within other applications, such as Eclipse. Essentially, middle-clicking will work for a while but eventually a middle-click will cause the mouse buttons to quit functioning correctly. One time, after this issue cropped up, I found that I could middle-click anywhere on the screen and it would maximize the active window.

Please let me know if there's any more information that I can provide to help troubleshoot and fix this issue. Or, let me know if there is a workaround or any suggestions that I could try to get this fixed.

Here's a correction to my last comment:

"One time, after this issue cropped up, I found that I could double-click (left button) anywhere on the screen and it would maximize the active window."

I think that I might have found a workaround. I disabled the "Konqueror Gestures" and I disabled my custom gestures and I haven't experienced the issue since I did that. I'll let you know whether or not this issue crops up again.

With gestures disabled, I didn't run into the issue again. So, I decided to re-enable my custom gestures. After doing so, the same issue cropped up again.

It appears that my custom gestures are causing the mouse buttons to stop working. I have the same gestures defined on my other PCs, which are running other flavors of Linux (with KDE 4.8 and 4.9) without issue.

The following are the two custom gestures that I have defined:

Description: Tile the active window to the left half of the screen.
Command/URL: xte 'keydown Super_L' 'keydown Left' 'keyup Super_L' 'keyup Left'

Description: Tile the active window to the right half of the screen:
Command/URL: xte 'keydown Super_L' 'keydown Right' 'keyup Super_L' 'keyup Right'

This issue is no longer happening for me so I'll close this as resolved.
