Also, please let us know which desktop you are using as the method used to configure devices preferences changes depending on the desktop used (e.g. KDE is different to GNOME etc). Rest assured that it's likely quite a simple one to fix :) Created attachment 3324 [details]

text/plain OK, so you have two sound devices on your machine, one HDMI and one built in device (capable of 7.1 surround or digital output it seems, but currently in stereo duplex mode). The next step will be knowing what is configured in KDE regarding device preferences. You also need to make sure you have the appropriate drivers installed too. So 1) Please ensure you have task-pulseaudio installed. It'll make sure some basic stuff is included. 2) Run: PHONON_PULSEAUDIO_DEBUG=99 kcmshell4 kcm_phonon 3) Attach the debug generated here. ================= You also need to make sure you have the appropriate drivers installed too. ================= sorry cant do that AMD already drop supporting HD 4350 in the last catalyst version ============================================================================== the result for command is =========================== kcmshell(32656)/kdeui (kdelibs): Session bus not found To circumvent this problem try the following command (with Linux and bash) export $(dbus-launch) KCrash: Application 'kcmshell4' crashing... text/plain It's just "kcm_phonon", not "kcm_phononexit", but you seem to have realised that now :) The priority lists show that the Analog sound device is the default, not the HDMI. If you want the HDMI to be default you need to configure things appropriately to order it above the "Built-in Audio Analog Stereo" (and make sure it applies for all categories). That said, you appear to have attempted to test the sound on the HDMI (presumably via the test button in the configuration pane). I presume this didn't work for you? Can I ask what phonon backend you are using? Is it gstreamer or vlc? Do you have all the relevant plugins installed? The fact that PA wasn't installed initially makes me worried that it's simply a package selection issue. e.g. maybe not all gstreamer plugins are installed to play all media types. Do you have speakers plugged into the analog sound card? I'd make sure you have those plugged in first. Also if you are using 7.1 speakers here make sure you pick a 7.1 Configuration Profile (you can do this on the second tab in the kcm by selecting "Analog Surround 7.1 Output + Analog Stereo Input") and ensure that all speakers are hooked up/plugged in correctly. Hope this helps, but it's really hard to debug remotely. It should all work fine I suspect, although there could still be issues with that particular h/w. Phonon is using Gstreamer but there is no any problem playing sounds when the 7.1 connectors are the default one =============================== i tried to force phonon to use HDMI by making it the first device on phonon devices list but nothing happened so i forced it from pulseaudio by disabling 7.1 connector driver but nothing happened either =============================== oh man what a mess when you using to sound server at the same time =============================== will i face the same problem if i try another envieronment i should try now E17 if it can solve this @ salim salim Sorry, it seems no one found time to comment on your reply from 16 months ago :-/ Do you still have the same problem with current cauldron?
