Description David Walser 2012-12-29 19:36:40 CET
I have a panel at the top and bottom of the screen.

The one at the bottom of the screen is the main panel with the menu, system tray, pager, lock/logout, and some launcher icons. It is set to auto-hide.

The one at the top is a secondary panel, does not auto-hide, and only contains a Task Manager (aka taskbar).

When I log in to KDE, the secondary panel does not get placed at the top of the screen, it ends up randomly placed somewhere in the middle of it. Each time I have to unlock the widgets and move that panel back to the top of the screen.

This issue started with Mageia 1, and I hoped it would have resolved itself in Mageia 2, but it has not. I did not have this problem with Mandriva 2009.1 through Mandriva 2010.2.

Also, the machine that exhibits this problem has a dual monitor setup. Another machine, with the same Plasma panel(s) configuration with just one monitor, does not have this problem.

At work I also have a dual monitor setup with the same Plasma panel(s) configuration, and it also doesn't do this. The one difference, which I think is the key, is where I do have the problem, my desktop icons are just a folderview widget on the top left corner of the desktop. Where I don't have the problem, the desktop itself is a folderview. IIRC the terminology for this is containments, so it's OK if the desktop is a folderview containment, but not a regular desktop containment, or something like that.

In my first Mageia 3 login, the top panel was positioned correctly! Let's see if it stays this way now.

This message is a reminder that Mageia 2 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately one month from now Mageia will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Mageia 2. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX (EOL) if it remains open with a Mageia 'version' of '2'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Mageia version prior to Mageia 2's end of life.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Mageia 2 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Mageia, you are encouraged to click on "Version" and change it against that version of Mageia.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Mageia release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.

Closing this now due to Mageia 2 EOL.
