Description Frank Griffin 2012-12-02 22:27:29 CET
I recently had a case where a user managed to delete our network icon and volume control icon from the KDE panel. In trying to restore them, I could not find any way to do it. They are not in the KDE selection list for panel applets.

I eventually found through Google that you can cause the panel to be rebuilt to default spec by removing $HOME/.kde4/share/config/plasma-appletsrc, but no newbie is going to do this.

I have no idea how the user managed to delete these, but I guarantee you it wasn't by right-clicking and selecting "Remove icon from panel". This particular user is an extreme and impatient newbie who shall not be identified here because I want to stay married. I suspect that the icons were just hooked somehow and dragged to Thailand or somewhere.

The point is, if we are going to put custom applets into the DE panels, we should be adding them to the applet lists that the DE uses so that they can be found and selected just as any others. I've reported it as KDE, but I'm sure that other DEs have a similar form of this problem.

Sorry, but this bug saw no action since over 2 yrs ago - no cauldron package has stayed the same - and is still assigned to Bug Squad.

Closing as OLD

Please reopen if this report is still valid for _current_ cauldron and/or fully
updated Mageia 4
