I installed Mageia3 alpha3 on a fit-pc2i with GMA500 graphics. I managed to log onto the system with ssh from another PC. I found that x11-driver-video-modesetting was not installed, and there was a line with 'Driver "fdev"' in xorg.conf. I installed the modesetting driver and inserted the two lines in Section "Device" of xorg.conf: Driver "modesetting" Option "SWCursor" "ON" Then I re-booted, but the screen still went black. With lsmod I discovered that a module by the name 'poulsbo' was loaded, in addition to gma500_gfx. Such a module is not loaded in neither Mageia2 nor LinuxMint-14. What is this mysterious module doing?

mageia, thierry.vignaud, tmb GMA500 now works with current updates to cauldron when I a) remove the xorg.conf from /etc/X11 and b) configure boot to auto-login to KDE4 and c) in KDE disable the internal display and select a 1920x1200 resolution for the external DVI device. In gnome GMA500 only works in mirror mode with a low 1024x768 resolution. I get an error when I try to select the high resolution for the DVI monitor. The fit-pci2 box does not have an internal display. The external DVI connector has to be used. Will there be a way to configure xorg.conf from the MCC? After massive updates to cauldron I have looked for changes: a) xorg.conf still has to be removed by login from other PC b) boot only works with outo-login into KDE4 There are improvements: c) It is now possible by logout from KDE4 to obtain the login screen and d) to login to 1) gnome, 2) gnome-classic and 3) xfce4 gnome is, however, not useful as gnome-shell uses about 80% of the CPU time. 2) and 3) seems to work, but when I try boot and auto-login into 2) and 3) I get e) black screen for auto-login into xfce4 f) "Oh no! Something has gone wrong." for auto-login into gnome-classic. After this I have to login from another PC to change auto-login to KDE4. Back to black screen after the latest updates to cauldron. This also applies for auto-login to KDE4. Could it be x11-driver-video-intel 2.20.18? Still black screen while trying auto-login to KDE4 after update to x11-driver-video-intel 2.20.19. But maybe this is not the faulty component? No more black screen when booting into graphics mode without auto-login. BUT I had to create a new xorg.conf by "Server configuration" in MCC, AND edit xorg.conf: Driver "fbdev" --> Driver "modesetting" I could then login to both KDE4 and Gnome-Classic, and they worked. Is MCC going to be modified so that "modesetting" is inserted instead of "fbdev"? Centerum censeo: Driver "fbdev" --> Driver "modesetting" when configuring xorg.conf in the control center After the latest update (2013-04-09) to cauldron xorg.conf was overwritten during re-boot and the line Driver "fbdev" was inserted into xorg.conf This again resulted in a black screen until I editet the line to Driver "modesetting" Any hope that this bug will be fixed? Waht's the result of 'lspcidrake -v|grep Card' ? Keywords:

text/plain We changed it from old broken psb to fbdev in bug #5633. Changing to "modesetting" make sense due to the kernel driver Fixed in SVN Status:

RESOLVED Actually, it workes with one of the later mga5 netinstall ISOs, so we could possibly close it. Ah, I se it is closed! |
