rpms to validate:

i586:
kmod-7-7.mga2.i586.rpm
libkmod2-7-7.mga2.i586.rpm
libkmod-devel-7-7.mga2.i586.rpm

lib64kmod-devel-7-7.mga2.x86_64.rpm

SRPM:
kmod-7-7.mga2.src.rpm

Advisory:

depmod does not respect modules.order when used with compressed
kernel modules that are used by default in Mageia.

This update resolves the issue.

Testing:
Check that everything sill works
compare modeules.dep before and after running depmod -a on an installed kernel.
the new one should match modules.order better.

This may be a stupid question, but where do I find modules.order and modules.dep?

kmod-7-7.mga2.src.rpm installed without problems, but so far I'm not sure how to test.

Comment 2 Thierry Vignaud 2012-12-05 14:15:12 CET
urpmf would have told you it's provided by the kernel.
You can check that every needed modules are loaded with new kmod as they were with older one.
The actual fix can only be tested on some machines.

Thomas, you should have added reference to bug #5833 ...

mga2, 32-bit system - comparing lsmod output before and after update, all the same modules are loaded, so seems to work just fine..

Can we validate it then? Not sure if it fixes the problem but at least it seems to work :)
Comment 9 Dave Hodgins 2013-01-17 04:13:22 CET
Validating the update.

Could someone from the sysadmin team push srpm
kmod-7-7.mga2.src.rpm
from Mageia 2 Core Updates Testing to Core Updates.

Advisory: The depmod command does not respect modules.order
when used with compressed kernel modules that are used by
default in Mageia.

This update resolves the issue.
