The report.bug mentioned above.
In another attempt like the one above, I tried to cryptsetup manually before ever clicking on "Custom Partitioning". I loaded a bunch of modules which I got from the report.bug. I got cryptsetup luksOpen to ask for the key, but then it silently returned to the command line. cryptsetup status showed the device as inactive afterwards. A remark about the screenshot above: Never mind that it shows two volume groups from an earlier attempt. As the steps above show, I reproduced the bug with a single-vg setup.

release_blocker Reproduced: same thing as in comment #1 happens when trying to create an encrypted partition on a fresh LVM in an updated cauldron x86_64 install. Summary:
Installer will not use pre-existing partition on LUKS on LVM =>

ennael1 I think this bug still exists.. getting errors like it. As per bug #5661 |
Created attachment 3153 [details] screenshot: UI elements missing Feeling a déjà vu? :) The other bug was the other way around: LVM on LUKS. When the Mageia 3 installer tries to use a pre-existing partition on LUKS on LVM, nothing happens and I get a display error (ui elements missing). Repeating the step leads to "cryptsetup failed". Manual luksOpen fails due to device "in use (already mapped or mounted)". To reproduce: 1. Use a Live CD or some installed system to create an ext4 partition on LUKS on LVM. 2. Boot Mageia 3 installer. (I used current boot-nonfree.iso x86_64.) 3. Choose Custom Disk Partitioning. 4. Select mount point /boot for some unencrypted partition. 5. Click Use for the pre-existing ext4 partition and enter LUKS key. 6. Run bug /dev/sda1
