Description Stephen Pettin 2011-04-14 03:15:33 CEST
Description of problem:
It seems when I ran a system update, my usb ethernet gadget stop working using new kernel, 2.6.38.2-desktop-4.mga. Using the old kernel, 2.6.38.2-desktop-2.mga, it works.

During the initial install, the gadget wasn't working until I unplugged and replugged the device in the usb port. I just did the same thing with the new kernel update, and now the issue is solved.

It seems the device has to be restarted after installation of the OS and or after a kernel update, once its active, no more issues involved. I just thought if it's possible to have the device active during installation/kernel update.

It took me awhile before trying to unplug and replug the usb device to get it active.

Thanks.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

Just an update on the Ethernet Gadget.

I'm currently installed/updating KDE using the Livecd Beta 2. This is a dual boot with another instance of Mageia on different partition. The install seems to have went good without any issues. One thing I've noticed is I have an Ethernet Gadget instead of wired ethernet connection and Mageia always use the wired ethernet by default.

I've installed Debian & Fedora and both seems to find and use the ethernet gadget as the default connection, since it be connected during installation. Maybe Mageia have the ethernet set as a hardcoded default connection.

Just a thought!

I also forgot to mention this is the 32bit version of KDE Beta 2.

To Ahmad, I'm not sure you got the email about the USB Ethernet Gadget, but here goes.

I guess from my first experience with Beta 1, the gadget was not active until I unplug and replug it in, same for new kernel. I never set the gadget as default.

It seems when I first installed Mageia Beta 1, I didn't noticed the option to set ethernet to usb gadget or regular ethernet (Broadcom). Once installed, I was able to choose the Gadget but if a new kernel was installed, I would have to unplug and replug the usb gadget and it work again.

Since I've recently installed Beta 2 KDE and after installation, set the ethernet to the Gadget and now it stays connected, even if a new kernel is installed.

My concern is other distros, such as Debian & Fedora, and during installation, it offers you a choice of which device to use as internet connection.

I hope this is clear to understand.

Thnx.

Seems it's work, if I misunderstand, feel free to reopen.
