Description of problem:

According to the manual of Asus Xonar DX, a pair of 2.0-channels speakers or a headphone should be connected with the Front output in its panel. But in Mageia only the Side output in the panel has sound. I used "speaker-test -c 8" to test channels (Xonar DX is a 7.1-channels sound card), and found that the Side output is recognized as the Front output because the sound of Front Left and Front Right are loudest.

Why doesn't the Front output work but the Side out is recognized as main output? How to solve the problem?

Thank you for your help!

I found a solution: Right-click the volume icon (in GNOME desktop), choose audio settings, and set the hardware profile of the sound card as "Analog Surround 7.1 Output + Analog Stereo Input". But if the sound card is connected with audio jacks of the front panel, the Front jack in the card's own panel can't work, and the output jack of the front panel is recognized as the Front output of the card.
