They're probably not OK. This happened to me several times under Mandriva, each time because of errors in the burn. When I cancelled and tested the disks with dd, I inevitably got I/O errors. So, (1) when the checksum hangs like that it indicates an I/O error reading back the burned image, and (2) in my case the problem was that the laser on the drive was going - if an ISO was over a certain size, the end of it was burned incorrectly. Replacing the drive fixed both. CC:
