Also tried logging in as root and logging in with gnome-classic, which gives Failed to load session "gnome-fallback" instead. with a netinstall it fail in a loop so have to install another dm. Hardware:

Confirmed with todays i586-dvd. The packages gnome-shell and gnome-panel are on the iso, but did not get installed, when selecting a gnome install. Once they are manually installed from the iso, gnome starts ok. CC:

davidwhodgins Confirmed here too. Both packages give several schema warnings when installed.. https://dl.dropbox.com/u/4147101/mga3a2/DSC01117.JPG with both packages installed gnome logs in ok and after a reboot gdm is the full version rather than classic version. Maybe it is because I am running the install in Virtual Box with 3d acceleration but gnome fails to start. I installed the new iso build.
