IIRC lightdm was pretty broken until I started to do some changes to it. I guess this happened after mga2. What does /var/log/lightdm/lightdm.log say? CC:

jani.valimaa I have not directory /var/log/lightdm, nor thus of file. On the other hand, in the log messages, I saw this: prefdm.service :main process exited, code=exited, status=1 prefdm.service: holdoff time over, sheduling restart Unit prefdm.service entered failed state These three lines are repeated several times I then checked the functioning of the script prefdm, by adding lines such as echo "$variable" > /home/georges/variable.txt I find $DISPLAYMANAGER = LIGHTDM $dm= LIGHTDM $preferred = /usr/bin/lightdm It seems to me nevertheless correct I then made a try by using the package of cauldron. Here, lightdm display and I can choose a user. I give my password. But the connection is refused. In a root console, I visualize the logs of lightdm. lightdm.log : Started session 1620 with service 'lightdm', username, 'georges' Session 1620 got 1 message(s) from PAM Prompt greeter got 1 message(s) x-0-greeter.log: Failed to open sessions directory: Error opening directory '/usr/share/xsessions : no such file or directory '/usr/sbin/chksession --generate=/usr/share/xsessions' as root might help with your issue with cauldron pkg. (will do nothing other as this bug seems confusing) Source RPM:

lightdm I have just made a new installation. I added the packages of cauldron: lightdm-1.4.0-6mga3, ligthdm-gtk-greeter-1.3.1-1mga3, libligthdm-gobject1_0-1.4.0-6mga3, accountservice-0.6.25-2mga3 With these packages, the functioning is correct. However, according to snapshot that I saw to ubuntu, it would miss: - 2 Icons, above on the right - the clock - the stop button

Summary:
Lightdm does not work =>
Lightdm-1.0.11-1.mga2 does not work Probably missing icon theme pkg. Try with gnome-icon-theme. Icon theme is also configurable in lightdm-gtk-greeter.conf. Hello, Effectively, it is necessary to modify the lightdm-gtk-greeter.conf file to obtain both icones. Seen the current problems with oxygen, I chose: - theme-name=Raleigh - icon-theme-name=Tango These themes exist automatically with Xfce. Therefore, the button Shutdown exists now. I think that it would be good of update to the new version of lightdm for mageia 2.

Triaged As mga2 is near EOL I'm not going to devote much time to fix lightdm. Actually I'm closing this as OLD. Status:
