Description Jeffrey Bruton 2012-09-30 23:54:55 CEST
Description of problem:
I have purchased an identical laptop to my main laptop (a Dell D630) to be used for Mageia Alpha and Beta testing so I can help the cause! Today when I first tried the 32-bit install DVD on this new test machine, I got no keyboard or mouse input. The laptop was connected to a docking station at the time. I then tried the 32-bit install DVD of Mageia 1 and it worked fine.
I spent an hour or two trying to reproduce this every time with mixed results. Point is it would not reproduce every time. Without keeping an exact tally, it appear the problem exists roughly 30% to 40% of the time. Booting undocked seemed to work all the time.
It appears the problem happens most on a cold start (power being applied after system was off for at least 10 seconds) when I hit no keys until the "Please Choose A Language To Use" install screen appears.
Even though I can not reproduce this 100% I thought I should mention it in case there are other issues that may be related.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible:
30% to 40% of the time

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Ensure Install DVD is in laptop (Dell D630) and BIOS is set to DVD boot.
2. Connect laptop to docking station.
3. Apply power to docking station and press power switch on docking station.
4. Touch no keys or mouse until "Please Choose A Language To Use" install screen appears.
5. Bad result which is sometimes reproduced: keyboard and mouse completely dead.

can you paste the output of 'lspcidrake -v'

also you may have info on the tty3 but if you can't move :/

Manuel:

No keyboard or mouse at all so don't know how I would paste the requested output. :-)

If you can suggest a method I most surely will.

Thanks
Jeffrey Bruton

Please run the following commands from your laptop in a terminal (from your KDE/GNOME desktop, not from the installer):

1) first when not docked:
lspcidrake -v>lspci-not-docked.txt
cat /proc/bus/input/devices>input-not-docked.txt
lsmod>lsmod-not-docked.txt

2) then when docked:
lspcidrake -v>lspci-docked.txt
cat /proc/bus/input/devices>input-docked.txt
lsmod>lsmod-docked.txt

Then attach all these files.

Also, when the installer works, plug an USB keys please got to 2nd console (alt+ctrl+f2) and run the "bug" command, then attach the report.bug.gz file to this bug report.

Humm, before doing all of that, what does report "lspcidrake|wc -l"?
Wouldn't it be 100 by chance when docked?
