Well, a long story short: pcmanfm was installed. 1. MCC 2. Configuring media 3. Installing xterm Now the box is usable. How did you install exactly? did you change any options or went with the defaults in the installer? I uncheked office. I'm gonna try default installation on different box anyway. Btw, I have the same problem with i586 box installation. I've just installed LXDE from DUAL CD on x86_64. Default installation (606 packages) just worked. Two previous installation was made from ISO image. 611 packages was installed on x86_64 box (/ on LVM partition). 612 packages was installed on i586 one. The installation was made with / and /home (not formatted) partitions on previous LXDE (Mandriva) installation. I was able to boot into LXDE. However after updates and reboot choosing LXDE from kdm just restarted kdm. So LXDE does get installed now? (The login problem with LXDE+KDM should be in a new bug report). I had three different installation. Original (I filed a bug about) didn't install LXDE. Installation was one from iso image. Installation from dual CD installed LXDE on different box. # /usr/sbin/findSession didn't add LXDE to kdm session. Is it installed? (In reply to comment #6) > I had three different installation. > > Original (I filed a bug about) didn't install LXDE. Installation was one from > iso image. > OK. > Installation from dual CD installed LXDE on different box. > That installed LXDE correctly? > # /usr/sbin/findSession didn't add LXDE to kdm session. > > Is it installed? Which do you mean by "installed" LXDE or /usr/sbin/fndSession ? Well, lets restate, "dual CD didn't install LXDE". Oops! # urpmi task-lxde Package task-lxde-1-3.mga1.noarch is already installed I just can't login into LXDE. Which display manager is used (KDM or GDM)? you can check: grep -i display /etc/sysconfig/desktop Keywords:

lxde-common # grep -i display /etc/sysconfig/desktop DISPLAYMANAGER=gdm There's a bug with LXDE+gdm, other display managers work OK. e.g. xdm, slim or kdm. So install any of them and switch the display manager using 'drakedm' from console. (Please don't put 'beta/alpha' in bug summaries, a bug can live through alpha/beta/final release and get fixed in the next official release of Mageia...). Summary:
1-beta1: dual CD doesn't install LXDE =>
Can't log into LXDE when using GDM It worked on x86_64 boxes. On i586 box, it was fixed with a regular updates a couple of days ago. My 'beta/alpha' in bug summaries reflects bugzilla's bugs sorting stile. At least I have a time when I filed a bug immediately visible from a bug list. (In reply to comment #13) > It worked on x86_64 boxes. > > On i586 box, it was fixed with a regular updates a couple of days ago. > What worked exactly? logging into LXDE with gdm as the display manager? > My 'beta/alpha' in bug summaries reflects bugzilla's bugs sorting stile. At > least I have a time when I filed a bug immediately visible from a bug list. But it's totally useless from a developer/triage point of view, simply because reading the description/date and looking at the RPM Package field will reveal when the bug was filed. Again, it doesn't matter if a bug happened in Alpha/Beta/RC/Final release, a bug can be still alive through all those stages and get fixed in the next release. On x86_64, switching to kdm let me login into LXDE. On i586, after updates a couple of days ago, I was able to login into LXDE with gdm.

i586 I am having problem with login issues, I have the themes installed on LXDE and GNOME distro, but I see the choice of subjects in the GDM screen ... I'm using beta mageia # 1 as follows: [Padula @ localhost ~] $ uname-a Linux localhost 2.6.38.4-desktop586-1.mga # 1 SMP Fri Apr 22 19:16:51 UTC 2011 i686 i686 i386 GNU / Linux [Padula @ localhost ~] $ Assigning to maintainer now that our maintainers database has an entry for this package. stormi Is this bug still valid? Or was it automagically solved between beta and final? Oliver Status:
