I've been looking into why my iphone 3G can't connect anymore.  According to http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.linux.arch.general/43779 the newer udev will not start a long running daemon.  It needs a systemd service.  I see Mandriva has it in their SVN. http://svn.mandriva.com/viewvc/packages/cooker/usbmuxd/current/SOURCES/
