Description Carolyn Rowse 2012-08-29 21:03:06 CEST
Description of problem:

When trying to install the Mga3 Alpha1 DVD, after choosing the partitioning setup I was advised that the core media would be installed and asked if I had any further ones to add. I left "None" selected and got an error message. Tried pressing OK and got another error message - I'll try to add screenshots, otherwise I'll have to type the whole of the messages. Pressed OK again and was returned to the partitioning menu and the whole process kept repeating itself.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible:

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start installation process
2. Error messages occur after partitioning choice made
3.

Does the download pass the checksum test?

sha1sum -c ./Mageia-3-alpha1-i586-DVD.iso.sha1

Did you burn this to a physical dvd, copy to a usb stick, or
mount it in a vb guest?

[manu@vosdook ~]$ grep bases /mnt/data/iso/test/Mageia-3-alpha1-i586-DVD/Mageia-3-alpha1-i586-DVD.idx
Mageia-3 alpha1-i586 basesystem-2 (i586)

On reflection, I recall that the first time I used rsync I had to abort the download because the speed had dropped so much it would have taken hours. It could be that it aborted in the middle of downloading that particular file.

I'll start again with a fresh download and see if that helps, as nobody else seems to have had the same problem.

Remember that rsync is like torrent, no need to restart from the beginning.

If that wouldn't have made a difference, might it be that the checksum was wrong? I suspect I forgot to check it in my haste or enthusiasm, but in that case presumably I would have to re-download anyway. So I think I will start again when the fresh builds are out.

I've cleared my comments from Ethercalc for now, I can always put them back again if necessary.

Thank you.

Tried again this morning with the new ISO and got past the media selection stage OK.

Thank you.
