Do you have any unresponsive NFS shares mounted ? CC:

ftg (In reply to comment #1) > Do you have any unresponsive NFS shares mounted ? No, I don't. "mount | grep -i nfs" and "mount | grep -i netfs" return no results, and I've now tried with Samba disabled on both the offending machine and my laptop and there's still a problem. I should note that that laptop which runs Mageia 2 does not seem to exhibit the problem and the problem may have become not as bad after I changed this line in /etc/nsswitch.conf: # hosts: mdns4_minimal files nis dns mdns4 to this one: hosts: files dns But it's still takes too much time. Regards, -- Shlomi Fish This is very easy to reproduce. If I type "dolphin" at a command prompt, it hangs for exactly 30 seconds, and then gives: [ftg@ftgme2 ~]$ dolphin dolphin(15820) KSambaSharePrivate::testparmParamValue: We got some errors while running testparm "Load smb config files from /etc/samba/smb.conf Loaded services file OK. Warning: Service printers defines a print command, but rameter is ignored when using CUPS libraries. " Setting severity to "critical" because this affects virtually everything running under KDE that uses a filechooser, and is quickly making KDE unusable. Severity:

critical I have the same problem. It seems that it's due to the use of udisks 2 solid backend. Gentoo has the same bug with this backend https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=424157 We will see the suitable fix; reverting to the udisks backend, or trying to fix the udisks 2 backend with upstream (Fedora). regards, Luc CC:

balcaen.john, lmenut, nicolas.lecureuil Nicolas reverted to use the udisks solid backend for now (kdelibs4-4.9.0-7), until the udisks 2 backend will be officially in kde 4.10. @ Shlomi and Frank Can you confirm that this bug is fixed for you with the last kdelibs4 update (kdelibs4-4.9.0-7). regards, Luc Keywords:

Both the Konsole open file / save as dialogue and Dolphin pop up instantly. Thanks! Regards, -- Shlomi Fish > regards, > Luc Yes, confirming fixed. Thanks ! Bug is fixed now, so removing "NEEDINFO" and resolving as FIXED. Keywords:

Description of problem: KDE's open file / save as dialogs take a lot of time to pop up (5-10 seconds), including when running them on: 1. LXDE. 2. In a new UNIX user account. 3. From konsole - File -> Save Output As:. 4. After they got invoked for the first time. I tested it on the same computer on my Debian testing partition, and they start there after 2-3 seconds for the first time and instantly afterwards. Someone on #kde-devel said it is also OK for him on OpenSUSE. Computer specs: <<< My primary machine is a desktop machine with a: An Intel Core i3 CPU (x86-64). 8 GB of RAM.
