Description Oleg Bosis 2012-07-24 20:16:16 CEST
Description of problem:
I have installed Mageia 2 in vmware-player virtual machine and noticed that I can not use any 3D application in it.

After some investigation I've found that x11-driver-video-vmware module was compiled without KMS and 3D support.

To enable this support mesa packages have to be rebuilt with xatracker feature enabled. This feature can be enabled by adding the '--enable-xa' configure option and adding svga driver to the list of gallium drivers. Then x11-driver-video-vmware package have to be rebuilt.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
mesa-8.0.2
x11-driver-video-vmware-12.0.0

How reproducible:
always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.
2.
3.

Hi Oleg,

Thanks for your report!
Sorry that we didn't reply to it before, we are short on active bugsquad members. :-(
If you're interested in becoming a part of the team: you're very welcome!
https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Bug_Squad

I'll cc the maintainer of x11-driver-video-vmware
Does the problem still exist in current Mageia 2, 3 and/or cauldron?

AFAICS the problem was not fixed until now. Here is the link to instructions on how to enable vmware guest driver in mesa: http://www.mesa3d.org/vmware-guest.html

Unfortunately I can not become a real and active member of any Mageia development/testing group as I don't have enough spare time for this. But anyway thank you for your invitation.

Hi, thanks for reporting this bug.
As there is no maintainer for this package I added the committers in CC.

This message is a reminder that Mageia 2 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately one month from now Mageia will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Mageia 2. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX (EOL) if it remains open with a Mageia 'version' of '2'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Mageia version prior to Mageia 2's end of life.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Mageia 2 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Mageia, you are encouraged to click on "Version" and change it against that version of Mageia.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Mageia release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.

Mageia 2 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on ''22 November''. Mageia 2 is no
longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or
bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Mageia
please feel free to click on "Version" change it against that version of Mageia
and reopen this bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
