Note that in Ubuntu the controller works, so it seems that's only a driver missing in the kernel or initrd: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=9735239&postcount=160 Can you boot in rescue mode, and capture the output of: lspcidrake -v | grep STORAGE and add it to this BR CC:

The whole lspcidrake -v
Here the output of the command: ahci : nVidia Corporation|MCP89 SATA Controller [STORAGE_IDE] (vendor:10de device:0d85 subv:106b subd:cb89) (rev: a2) I took the whole lspcidrake -v as an attachment, if needed. Problem is that i needed to boot with the dvd AND the usb stick (made with mandriva_seed) because the stick itself won't boot and upon booting the kernel on the dvd, there's no support for the cdrom reader anymore :) @ Giuseppe @ tmb Any news on this bug. Did it get fixed? CC:

marja11 I'm currently unable to boot cauldron so I don't know. Mageia 1 released still don't have nvidia SATA driver working. Any way to have some kind of iso of cauldron to test? Installing from the boot.iso image from cauldron last week didn't work (I tried in a virtual machine first) so I'm stuck with the non-working released version. If you are interested, Mandriva 2011 works fine with the controller (you need an updated kernel for wireless to work). @ Giuseppi Thx for the all the feedback. I'm very sorry to here the nvidia SATA driver still doesn't work in Mageia 1. At the moment there isn't a cauldron iso to test. According to http://blog.mageia.org/en/2011/07/17/mageia-2-release-cycle-support-and-planning/ the planning for Mageia 2 Alpha 1 is 16/11/2011, but I might have missed a message about a delay. Of course it is good to know you don't have the bug in MDV 2011 @ Giuseppi Thx for the all the feedback. I'm very sorry to hear the nvidia SATA driver still doesn't work in Mageia 1. The Macbook Pro 13"/2010 controller is not detected by install DVD @ Giuseppi In case you'd like to test with the Mageia 2 beta 1 DVD: https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Mageia_2_beta1 No cdrom found on Mageia 2 Beta 1 (x86_64) As soon as I have time, I'll try cd+usb install. Using the dvd+usb stick method (using dvd to boot kernel and the image on usb drive), I can reach the language screen. So far, the touchpad does not work. Trying to go on with keyboard only brings the following message: "An error occurred" "An error occurred - no valid devices were found on which to create new filesystems. Please check your hardware for the cause of this problem." I think there's still no controller support. Hi, This bug was filed against cauldron, but we do not have cauldron at the moment. Please report whether this bug is still valid for Mageia 2. Thanks :) Cheers, marja Keywords:

NEEDINFO I tried just today. The key is using the ata_generic module that is usually automatically installed. If you tell the installer to use that module it will go on. I think I tried it before the release of M2, but maybe it was such a obvious thing to do that I didn't. I think it should be definitely be in the Mageia2 errata that you must force ata_generic to load to see the cdrom. The hard disk comes with it too. I'm writing from a brand new Mageia2 now and I'm just pulling Gnome3 packages (I'm using LXDE as I installed from dual arch media). Congratulations to all. This is a fantastic release (just installed on my other notebook, MSI s271 and it worked flawlessly). I think you can close provided that you issue the errata. Status:
