should have been a feature request, as it's not a little change, but don't know if it's too late URL:

http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Features/1000SystemAccounts You can set the user ID manually when adding a user, even during install, but I'm not sure if you can do it for the first user during install and I don't have a system I can test it on. I thought there was a way to change the user ID using MCC, but I can't seem to find it. BTW, I think Mandriva switched to 1000 at some point. I remember having a problem and needed to switch back to 500. I thought I remembered altering the user ID for an existing user using a GUI, but I may be wrong. I remember having a couple of problems, but I think they were with partitions that weren't mounted at the time of the switch. --Jeff CC:

I don't think so Hmm, I don't know what I was using then. I remember going through the process once. --Jeff Is this still valid? Haven't we changed to 1000? CC:

nic (In reply to Nic Baxter from comment #5) For Mageia 5, on new installs, UID's start at 1000. There are no plans to force a change in UID on upgrades, existing UID's will be retained. Nothing to do Status:
