Description of problem:

hi,

mageia sets by default the user ID "500", so it results impossible to write to other distros and viceversa, while this behaviour is allowed for windows partitions. is it possible to change the default user ID to "1000" as all the other distros do? thanks

should have been a feature request, as it's not a little change, but don't know if it's too late

You can set the user ID manually when adding a user, even during install, but I'm not sure if you can do it for the first user during install and I don't have a system I can test it on.

I thought there was a way to change the user ID using MCC, but I can't seem to find it.

BTW, I think Mandriva switched to 1000 at some point.  I remember having a problem and needed to switch back to 500.  I thought I remembered altering the user ID for an existing user using a GUI, but I may be wrong.  I remember having a couple of problems, but I think they were with partitions that weren't mounted at the time of the switch.

Sorry, I meant changing an existing user's ID.

Hmm, I don't know what I was using then.  I remember going through the process once.

For Mageia 5, on new installs, UID's start at 1000. 

There are no plans to force a change in UID on upgrades, existing UID's will be retained.
