Description morrigan w 2012-06-18 11:02:00 CEST
Description of problem:

kernel: 3.4.2-desktop-1.mga3
gnome-session-bin-3.4.2.1-2.mga3.x86_64

If I plug in my wacom tablet (a Bamboo that has been supported for years), the gnome session is killed.

I get a error panel that tells me that oh no, something has gone wrong and forces me to log out. After that, it is no longer possible to log in again - the login panel appears with the oh no message in the background, password is accepted, session is immediately killed and login panel reappears. A restart of the dm service does not help.

Unplugging the tablet and rmmod-ing the wacom driver does not help either. I managed once to fix the system again by doing telinit 1, telinit 5, but on second attempt not even that got me a working x-session again.

This can be reproduced at will.

The syslog is not very communicative about it:

ah, forgot to add - I get this on the gnome classic session. Haven't tried the 3d one. This behaviour isn't entirely new - I have one machine on mga2 that does this occasionally, but there it is fixed with a re-login.

The machine I have on cooker does it every time and I haven't found a workaround yet.

Might be a permission problem?

That's what the auth log has to say on the issue:

Jun 18 11:31:22 phoenix pkexec[12697]: morrigan: Error executing command as another user: Not authorized [USER=root] [TTY=unknown] [CWD=/home/morrigan] [COMMAND=/usr/lib64/gsd-wacom-led-helper --path /dev/input/event18 --group 0 --led 0]
...

I think this happens on startup:

Jun 18 11:33:38 phoenix pkexec[13237]: gdm: The value for the SHELL variable was not found the /etc/shells file [USER=root] [TTY=unknown] [CWD=/var/lib/gdm] [COMMAND=/usr/lib64/gsd-wacom-led-helper --path /dev/input/event18 --group 2 --led 0]
