Description Digigold 2012-06-13 00:16:28 CEST
Mageia 2 does not recognize my Realtek 8188CE WiFi after install.

This can be easily remedied by the following:

#1 download 92ce_se_de_linux_mac80211_0005.1230.2011.tar.gz from http://www.realtek.com/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=48&PFid=48&Level=5&Conn=4&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false&Downloads=true#RTL8188CE.

#2 Install DKMS if necessary.
  -urpmi -a DKMS

#3 Extract files
  -cd /usr/local
  -tar axvf /'file location'/92ce_se_de_linux_mac80211_0005.1230.2011.tar.gz
  -make
  -make install

#4 Reboot

#5 Set up Wifi with MCC or preferred program.

NOTES:

1- this may be unnecessary if you have access to a wired connection as as Mageia's non-free repo contains rtlwifi-firmware-20120421-3 which may work. I only had access to WiFi so I could not contact Repo.

2- Wasn't sure if this is really a "bug" or not, but it is worth noting that Mageia is one of the only distro's that doesn't recognize the this card right off the bat. I think allot of newbies like X-ubuntu or Mint users will become frustrated and just go on to the next distro

Well if you use the livecd you will have wifi as it contain the rpm, and it's written that the dvd is free only.

We have several bugs about that so close this one to not duplicate discussion.
