kde has a "now playing" plasmoid that inform of whatever song is currently playing, with some controls to skip song.

however, it doesn't support mpd, and upstream nack-ed the request to support it (cf https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=165953). instead, author said to use mpdris2, which is a mpris gateway for mpd.

Assigning this package request to all packagers collectively. On a voluntary basis, one of them might want to integrate it to the distribution and maintain it for bug and security fixes.
