reduce blkid timeout to 30s

Description Norbert Marchl 2012-05-19 17:32:39 CEST
Description of problem:

At first I can Install Cauldron pre2 final install without any problem.

I start Install. All runs fine, When the Installer begin to install files, afer a while it shows the message:

unabel to install package /tmp/image/media/core/qt4-xmpatterns-4.8.1-2,mga.x86_64.rpm

I klick Ok it runs forth. I change the screen with Ctrl-Alt-F1 (with a few error messages) and alternate with Ctrl-Alt-F3 I see that it runs forth. At the end it shows around 150 install-transaktion failed (I hope it is rigth I install under german)

I can do the rest (only in Summary he can't find a time-zone)

At the end, Whenn reboot seems all fine, but it ends in a clear console and can't startx (KDE)

In the screen with Ctrl-Alt-F3 I see this:

<3> [ 3699 9421962] Buffer I/O error on drive f0, logical block 0.

Is this a floppy? It's now physicall floppy in my PC. I have on purpose seen in the BIOS it is nothing here or activated a floppy.

I hope this helps.

I see

* ERROR: killing runaway process (process=blkid, pid=4281, args=-o udev -p /dev/fd0, error=ALARM at /usr/lib/libDrakX/run_program.pm line 99.
)

for me it's seems a duplicate of https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4696
norbert, try this https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4696#c10

and for the errors it seems the nvidia crash...

I'm thinking of patching kernel like fedora so it stops to autoload floppy
everytime it finds the pnp headers

@ Thierry
@ Thomas

I was about to close this bug as invalid, but I'll leave it open now, because it seems TV discovered something.

The reason for wanting to close it, is:

    Norbert solved the problem

    When he bought the pc, the DVD station was set to ATA-master, but he wasn't
    aware, because he never had any problems, not even while installing with the
    Mageia 2 pre final i586 DVD.

    Trying to figure out why installing with the X86_64 DVD gave so much trouble,
    he saw the jumper was set to ATA-master, that struck him as weird, so he
    changed it to ATA-slave and all problems were gone.

in ddebug.log I see:
* running: blkid -o udev -p /dev/sdg1
* blkid gave: vfat
* running: /sbin/insmod /tmp/floppy.ko
Comment 8 Thierry Vignaud 2012-05-20 14:54:17 CEST
Humm
We need to load floopy.ko in order to detect whether there's a floppy drive or not.

We later try to get magic from fses, using blkid.
As /dev/fd0 seems to exist, we run it on it.

blkid should not block like this for more than 10mn.
Maybe should we set a 30s timeout for blkid...

Hi,

This bug was filed against cauldron, but we do not have cauldron at the moment.

Please report whether this bug is still valid for Mageia 2.

Thanks :)

Cheers,
marja
