Description Juergen Harms 2012-05-17 13:05:42 CEST
Description of problem:

At the end of an installation from a livecd, a user must be defined. As opposed to an install from a medium ("advanced option"), the install from a livecd does not offer the possibility to explicitely specify a uid and a gid for the user - the advanced option is not available for the livecd install mechanism.

It is - evidently - possible to work around this problem by using one of the available tools to create / modify a user after the install, but this is cumbersome, particularly if files have already been created and need to be chown'ed.

Such an enhancement is of particular importance for users who come from other distros - often using other default-uid conventions - who want to check out Mageia and use the livecd - install sequence of actions.

How reproducible: n/a

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Boot with a livecd
2. Use the "install" feature
3. Respond to the user-creation sollicitation

If I remember correctly, there was also an advanced option to specify the uid/gid for the user in the livecd installation. I'll check it out whether there is still one in the mageia 2 rc livecd.

Yes exactly, its like in the classic installer but you get the windows only after the first reboot on your harddrive, and it's called with the drakx-finish-install script

Funny - comment #2 (+ picture) is precisely what I had expected to get, but the advanced button was certainly missing (RC 1st round of the Europe1-Americas livecd).

I will repeat the entire exercise and verify (next round of final livecds?). But that may take some time, I am currently over my ears in non-Mageia work.

I've confirmed that there is an Advanced button in the mageia 2 rc livecd (Asia-Noindia). But it's "hidden," and therefore I need to drag the scrollbar down to see that button.

> But it's "hidden,"

I did not scroll down - that explains why I have not seen the button.

I suggest to maintain this as an enhancement bug and correct the problem description to say

Visibility of the "advanced button" of the user definition page (livecd installer)

Formally the bug could also be closed (or promoted to be an ordinary bug).
