Description w unruh 2012-05-17 08:56:14 CEST
Description of problem: The Panel Battery Monitor widget is reporting strange results.
a) If I plug the computer in there is no change to the icon on the power bar, giving no indication that the battery is charging (Under the old Mandriva a lightnig bolt indicated it was plugged in)

b) If I clicked on the icon, I get the statement that it is charging. But the :time left" keeps decreasing. (Is this supposed to indicate how much longer it is charging until full? Since there is no change in the sentence if I unplug it, except the time changes, there is nothing to indicate that this is the right interpretation).

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): No idea what the component is of the battery monitor.

In which desktop do you see this ?

KDE desktop

I have looked very very closely at the icon and there is a tiny plug appears when it is plugged in. This is so tiny it is almost impossible to see (and is impossible to see if the battery charge state label is over the icon. It really needs to be much more obvious that the battery is charging. In my case I pugged the laptop in but it turned out one of the connections was loose and it was not charging. There is no way I could notice that by looking at the icon. I noticed when the laptop shutdown for lack of charge).

On the second item, I am now convinced that the time left indicates how long until it is charged up if you are charging it. Again, it needs to make that clearer as at present it is very confusing.

Hi,

This bug was filed against cauldron, but we do not have cauldron at the moment.

Please report whether this bug is still valid for Mageia 2.

Thanks :)

Cheers,
marja

This is either an upstream (aka from the KDE project) bug or enhancement request.

Either it will be fixed via a KDE update (but I doubt there will be new KDE updates to Mageia 2) or in a later version of Mageia. If it hasn't been fixed yet in the latest version of KDE, then you should report a bug to the KDE project.

Thanks.

a) I have no idea who designs the "charging/discharging" icons for the battery. You are saying it is the KDE folks, not you I believe. Similarly for the text of the information reports.

b) I had thought that Mageia pushed bug reports upstream if that was where they belong. You are saying I should do it.

Thank you.

We do, especially when we find bugs ourselves, but there are so many bugs to report and so little time (remember that we are only contributors trying to do our best) that sometimes we have to say to people who report them to us : "please report them upstream".

You're welcome
