does it work with "xdriver=nouveau" Keywords:

NEEDINFO This is what I've been trying this morning: xdriver=nouveau didn't make any difference at all. radeon.modeset=0 got me one tantalising step further - got desktop icons but no wallpaper, only a black background. Tried the GNOME edition and that was even worse - as soon as it tried to load the desktop it crashed completely, gave me a picture of a computer with a sad face on its screen and a message that an error had occurred that the system couldn't recover from and telling me to contact the system administrator. Decided to try some other distros that I haven't tried on this computer yet - Kororaa 16, Mint 12 and Xubuntu 12.04 - and they all booted and loaded everything up fine without any intervention needed from me. hum :( and what is your exact graphic card ? 'lspcidrake -v' in a console (also note that radeon is for ati card) I thought the reference to radeon seemed a bit strange. This is the output of lspcidrake -v: firewire_ohci : VIA Technologies, Inc.|VT6306/7/8 [Fire II(M)] IEEE 1394 OHCI Controller [SERIAL_FIREWIRE] (vendor:1106 device:3044 subv:0574 subd:068c) (rev: c0) Card:NVIDIA GeForce 6100 to GeForce 360: nVidia Corporation|C73 [GeForce 7100 / nForce 630i] [DISPLAY_VGA] (vendor:10de device:07e1 subv:1462 subd:7504) (rev: a2) forcedeth : nVidia Corporation|MCP73 Ethernet [NETWORK_ETHERNET] (vendor:10de device:07dc subv:1462 subd:504c) (rev: a2) ahci : nVidia Corporation|GeForce 7100/nForce 630i SATA [STORAGE_SATA] (vendor:10de device:07f4 subv:1462 subd:7504) (rev: a2) shpchp : nVidia Corporation|MCP73 PCI Express bridge [BRIDGE_PCI] (vendor:10de device:056f) (rev: a1) shpchp : nVidia Corporation|MCP73 PCI Express bridge [BRIDGE_PCI] (vendor:10de device:056f) (rev: a1) shpchp : nVidia Corporation|MCP73 PCI Express bridge [BRIDGE_PCI] (vendor:10de device:056e) (rev: a1) unknown : nVidia Corporation|MCP73 PCI Express bridge [BRIDGE_PCI] (vendor:10de device:056d) (rev: a1) snd_hda_intel : nVidia Corporation|MCP73 High Definition Audio (vendor:10de device:07fc subv:1462 subd:504c) (rev: a1) ehci_hcd : nVidia Corporation|MCP73 [nForce 630i] USB 2.0 Controller (EHCI) [SERIAL_USB] (vendor:10de device:056a subv:1462 subd:7504) (rev: a1) ohci_hcd : nVidia Corporation|GeForce 7100/nForce 630i USB [SERIAL_USB] (vendor:10de device:07fe subv:1462 subd:7504) (rev: a1) unknown : nVidia Corporation|MCP73 Memory Controller [MEMORY_RAM] (vendor:10de device:07c8) (rev: a1) unknown : nVidia Corporation|MCP73 Co-processor [PROCESSOR_CO] (vendor:10de device:07da subv:1462 subd:7504) (rev: a2) unknown : nVidia Corporation|MCP73 Memory Controller [MEMORY_RAM] (vendor:10de device:07d9 subv:1462 subd:7504) (rev: a1) i2c_nforce2 : nVidia Corporation|MCP73 SMBus [SERIAL_SMBUS] (vendor:10de device:07d8 subv:1462 subd:7504) (rev: a1) unknown : nVidia Corporation|MCP73 LPC Bridge [BRIDGE_ISA] (vendor:10de device:07d7 subv:1462 subd:7504) (rev: a2) unknown : nVidia Corporation|nForce 630i memory controller [MEMORY_RAM] (vendor:10de device:07d6 subv:1462 subd:7504) (rev: a1) unknown : nVidia Corporation|nForce 630i memory controller [MEMORY_RAM] (vendor:10de device:07d3 subv:1462 subd:7504) (rev: a1) unknown : nVidia Corporation|nForce 630i memory controller [MEMORY_RAM] (vendor:10de device:07d2 subv:1462 subd:7504) (rev: a1) unknown : nVidia Corporation|nForce 630i memory controller [MEMORY_RAM] (vendor:10de device:07d1 subv:1462 subd:7504) (rev: a1) unknown : nVidia Corporation|nForce 630i memory controller [MEMORY_RAM] (vendor:10de device:07d0 subv:1462 subd:7504) (rev: a1) unknown : nVidia Corporation|nForce 630i memory controller [MEMORY_RAM] (vendor:10de device:07cf subv:1462 subd:7504) (rev: a1) unknown : nVidia Corporation|nForce 630i memory controller [MEMORY_RAM] (vendor:10de device:07ce subv:1462 subd:7504) (rev: a1) unknown : nVidia Corporation|nForce 630i memory controller [MEMORY_RAM] (vendor:10de device:07cd subv:1462 subd:7504) (rev: a1) unknown : nVidia Corporation|nForce 630i memory controller [MEMORY_RAM] (vendor:10de device:07cb subv:1462 subd:7504) (rev: a2) unknown : nVidia Corporation|MCP73 Host Bridge [BRIDGE_HOST] (vendor:10de device:07c1 subv:1462 subd:7504) (rev: a2) hub : Linux 2.6.38.8-desktop586-10.mga ohci_hcd|OHCI Host Controller [Hub|Unused|Full speed (or root) hub] (vendor:1d6b device:0001) usbhid : |USB Keyboard [Human Interface Device|Boot Interface Subclass|Keyboard] (vendor:04d9 device:1603) usbhid : HOLTEK|Optical Mouse [Human Interface Device|Boot Interface Subclass|Mouse] (vendor:1a81 device:2204) hub : Linux 2.6.38.8-desktop586-10.mga ehci_hcd|EHCI Host Controller [Hub|Unused|Full speed (or root) hub] (vendor:1d6b device:0002) hub : Genesys Logic, Inc.|USB2.0 Hub [Hub|Unused|Full speed (or root) hub] (vendor:05e3 device:0606) hub : Genesys Logic, Inc.|USB2.0 Hub [Hub|Unused|Full speed (or root) hub] (vendor:05e3 device:0606) usb_storage : Generic|USB2.0-CRW [Mass Storage|SCSI|Bulk (Zip)] (vendor:0bda device:0151) Perhaps I should mention that Mageia 1 runs perfectly on this computer - in fact, so well you'd think they were designed for each other!

RPM Packages Absolutely fine with the latest KDE i586 ISO - I'm using it now. Many thanks. Will try and test the GNOME one later on. Latest GNOME one is fine as well - am using it to type this. Thank you. Hi, This bug was filed against cauldron, but we do not have cauldron at the moment. Please report whether this bug is still valid for Mageia 2. Thanks :) Cheers, marja (In reply to comment #7) > Absolutely fine with the latest KDE i586 ISO - I'm using it now. > Many thanks. > > Will try and test the GNOME one later on.
