Description Richard Neill 2012-04-20 16:52:59 CEST
Please can I request that the RSS GLX screensavers (which are especially impressive) should be packaged for Mageia? Thank you very much!

Here is the homepage so you can see why these are good:

As a workaround, it's possible to install the Mandriva 2010.1 package, with a little tweaking (albeit an older version of the programs):

1. Find it on rpmfind.net:
 http://www.rpmfind.net/linux/rpm2html/search.php?query=rss_glx&submit=Search+...

2. Download the RPM:
ftp://195.220.108.108/linux/Mandriva/official/2010.1/x86_64/media/contrib/backports/rss_glx-0.9.1-1mdv2010.2.x86_64.rpm

3. Install the dependencies:
lib64magick5 and lib64freealut0 and lib64glew1.7

4. Create symlinks:
cd /usr/lib64
ln -s libMagickWand.so.5 libMagickWand.so.3
ln -s libMagickCore.so.5 libMagickCore.so.3
ln -s libGLEW.so.1.7 libGLEW.so.1.5

5. Force the rpm installation:
rpm -i --nodeps ./rss_glx-0.9.1-1mdv2010.2.x86_64.rpm

6. Try it out:
/usr/lib64/xscreensaver/helios

Ping for Mga4?
(Aside, many of these are already present in KDE's screensaver, so for example, try the "Euphoria" screensaver from the GL category).

Assigning this package request to all packagers collectively. On a voluntary basis, one of them might want to integrate it to the distribution and maintain it for bug and security fixes.

You might also want to join the packager team to maintain this piece of software: see https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Becoming_a_Mageia_Packager

Nowadays screensavers have lost their purpose. Nevertheless you can configure them via your prefered desktop environment. No extra package needed anymore.

Closing WONT.
