Description Andrew 2012-04-12 09:39:59 CEST
Description of problem:

OpenGL screensavers (tested with Euphoria (GL) and Flux (GL)) renders system graphically unstable until reboot if used in KDE with Desktop Effects enabled - unable to isolate specific effect. Only known work-arounds are disabling desktop effect altogether or avoid using openGL screensavers.

Resulting graphically instability is so severe that the system needs to be rebooted (usually with the laptop's power button as finding the shutdown button is near impossible at that point) in order to resume normal function.

Affected graphics card is an Intel N10 Family Integrated Graphics Controller (Vendor ID: 0x8086, Device ID: 0xa011, Sub vender ID: 0x1025, Sub Device ID: 0x0349) running Module: Card:Intel 810 and later

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

xscreensaver-extrusion (<- just a guess) 5.15-2.mga2
xscreensaver-gl (<- just a guess) 5.15-2.mga2
Mageia 2 Cauldron Beta 2 (fully updated)

How reproducible:

Always in KDE if Desktop Effects are enabled (default settings) when using the openGL screensavers - tested with "Euphoria (GL)" and "Flux (GL)"

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Log into KDE (an Intel N10 Family chipset might be needed to trigger)
2. Enable Desktop Effects (if not enabled already)
3. Change Screensaver to an openGL screensaver (try Euphoria or Flux for control purposes)
4. Wait for screensaver to activate (doesn't always trigger if "Test" is used)
5. Graphical instability should be noted at this point.
If not, go to step 6.
6. Wake from screensaver and notice instability.
If not, go to last step.
7. Open and close any window then do it again (such as Dolphin)
